Musings during the drive to work after seeing you this morning
Just one smile from your perfect face,
pushing sunshine upward
from the corners of your mouth
into your eyes,
forcing light to twinkle deep inside
like you are some heavenly being
made of starlight;
you make my entire day.
As I watch while we both drive away
I realize I want you more and more
as the solidarity of this brief moment
feels far too significant for what it was.
Though we talk to each other almost every day
I never seem to have nothing to say.
Words encrypt and then float through the air
unraveling into love notes on your screen.
The way you make me feel
makes everything else seem surreal
as distance chokes out the sensation
that I’m alone so much of the time.
But the very thought of your smile
all but fills up my tired mind
and memories of you next to me try
to keep me warm at night.
