cannot escape
sometimes we want things
to be what we want them to be
so we often ignore what we feel
in our hearts...
the line of sight is narrowed
to cast instinct aside for hopes
for wishes of a new day brighter than yesterday
no matter what the stakes are
even though we always knew it was a fallacy
contrived within our minds...
you cannot force good poetry
you cannot force true love
and you cannot escape the truth
unfortunately, we also cannot escape
the mistakes we make...
to be what we want them to be
so we often ignore what we feel
in our hearts...
the line of sight is narrowed
to cast instinct aside for hopes
for wishes of a new day brighter than yesterday
no matter what the stakes are
even though we always knew it was a fallacy
contrived within our minds...
you cannot force good poetry
you cannot force true love
and you cannot escape the truth
unfortunately, we also cannot escape
the mistakes we make...

the wise man weighs all the possibilities & makes the proper choice; the poet follows his heart...

Whenever I check on you, you seem to write something I feel or have felt.....
Heart being broken is a costly lesson that the eyes fail to see the truth behind the beauty and seduction of poetry, but the best proof is one's history of how many broken victims they have to bear witness to their charming lies.
thanks for this ; )

Re: cannot escape
this is one i had to return to after a few reads. it's a really great write Eddie, filled with more questions than answers & there's nothing quite like being made to think :)
one of my favourite words without an english equivalent is "Ya'aburnee" [arabic for you bury me]
it's used to describe a love so intense that you hope to die before your s.o because living without them would be too painful...
... but since life is not some hopelessly romantic shakespearean tragedy, there is little else to do except
"to cast instinct aside for hopes
for wishes of a new day brighter
than yesterday
no matter what the stakes are"
we live, we love, we lose & we learn... though it hurts sometimes, we are one experience richer
i'm now gonna stop sounding like some kinda fortune cookie
gigglesnorts
really enjoyed this piece

re: Re: cannot escape
It has many facets. As you know, both parties are always 50 percent of the problem no matter what the issue. Your words on experience are quite true and something I know very well...
I'm also sure you know what inspired this poem given your reply, but honestly, it is directed at myself as well, because I knew in my heart for a little while that it just wasn't going to work out. Accepting it was the brutally hard part...
Thank you for your thoughtful comment...
You knowt you'll always have a dear friend in me, take care... :)

Damn, this is so good, Ed, and I feel it applies to me so much, especially at the moment. Perfectly evocative and well-done.
