Take A Step Back

In the midst of the moment
I see the dark in your eyes
Your honest truth of more lies
You say you're sorry which I knew had it's honest approach
My heart screams no and my head pounds yes
But I know what you've done in the past
And I should choose for the best
I close my eyes and take a step back
Noticing how your hand grips tighter on my forearm
I jerk away with tears finally falling from the eyes that you
once claimed to be as beautiful as the deepest ocean
Your lips part to speak a word
But all that reveals itself is a weak tremble of groans
I find myself hurting you with each step I take back
Each step I finally take back from the past
As your heart shatters in two
As mine becomes a whole
You can say you're sorry
I'll take your apology
But I can never
Take you...
