One day ….
There are those who claim to know it all
and have even more
beyond the ruby encrusted skyline
and mountainous timeline,
with treasure troves of tales untold
unheard of by the “common man”
But a beggar can hold a diamond
the size of his heart and watch it
smolder to ash while feasting to death
on the dust of the alley’s famine.
And the fanciest prince can be left condemned,
forever alone,
surrounded by friends that will never be known.
One day…
as we stand on the edge of the end of the world
and sigh our blue sighs as we gaze on grey skies
we’ll philosophize on the conundrum:
Is it better to sit with melting eyes
on a tree stump decayed from better days,
or dangle, entangled in vines of frayed twine
staring wide-eyed at what, once-upon-a-time
filled the sweet air with laughter…and chuckle?
For there are paths that we travel on
and we stumble and fall
and crawl, as it were, to the finish line.
Will we ever know that,
one day, we may never know
if it’s better to die with a broken heart
or a worn out mind?
and have even more
beyond the ruby encrusted skyline
and mountainous timeline,
with treasure troves of tales untold
unheard of by the “common man”
But a beggar can hold a diamond
the size of his heart and watch it
smolder to ash while feasting to death
on the dust of the alley’s famine.
And the fanciest prince can be left condemned,
