Midnight Hour
The crowd is silent,
The stage is set,
Here's the motliest crew
That you've ever met
We have demons and ghouls,
fanged bats and dark cages,
Please don't stall the show
We've been waiting for ages
The children are fast asleep in their beds,
Pictures of sweet dreams filling their heads.
Unaware, of what's to come,
That the midnight hour is to dread
When the streets are all silent,
And the shadows are long,
The monsters creep out,
Knowing they've been wronged
Banished from the light by the sun's brilliant rays,
They creep through the dark, searching for prey,
Ivory teeth glistening with moonlight,
And willowy fingers splayed on window panes
They stare into the rooms of the children who sleep,
Their eyes are bright coals with a fading light,
And as the open the door,
Oh what a sight.
The night has begun,
Blood runs down the walls,
It streams down the floorboards,
And into the halls
The screams of the dying
Ring through the streets,
Folks, the show's not over,
So many new sights to greet!
The deafening clatter
As white bones hit the ground,
Three children to go,
But they don't make a sound.
The night dives upon them,
The quickest of kills,
Only one scream of fright
Then there's blood on your sill.
The sinners come last,
The worst of the bunch,
The demons in their lairs just
Love when they crunch
The dark starts to fade
To the dawning of day,
The shadowy monsters
Stop their parade.
They step back into darkness,
Where they are sealed
But that won't stop them
From getting their meal.
Midnight hour has ended,
But the night is not done,
To the darkest of creatures
It's all but begun.
