Take from this

Imagine thusly:
A field
Shaven, but of low grass
Barrenly green
Blades blown about by a force of invisibility.
Rich with sublimity, is it not?
Now, add a few trees, about three.
Place them in a close vicinity together.
The field, but a blank and green canvas
With a small huddle of trees
That cover a small fraction of that canvas.

The trees are magnificent in stature;
Behemoths, that touch the cyan sky
A plethora of life
Their tops are as green as the grass
Their roots spread and entangle each other
These trees are archaic
Beautifully sizable from age.
They add civility to this grassy desert.

This field is quiet.

Keep this in mind:
The trees cast great shadows
And Autumn has just past
Rigid, brown leaves
That were wept by the trees
Are only in the shadows where the trees are.
The rest of the field is clear and luminous.

Now, imagine thusly:
Is it peculiar
That the large and live sustaining trees
Contain the most dead under them?
That is kept out of the light?
Why is it that the largest
Most populated area -- the trees --
Has so much carrion -- the leaves --
Hidden in them?
And the rest of this field,
Is barren,
Especially of death.
