Alive and Well

I see no streets of gold
My paper crown ain't getting real
There's a hill above my own
With greener grass

These doors are locked
Not any happier from where I'm at
Still held up by my neighbor
With a better car

I'm living right
But envy another man
His life I've seen from a distance

Pain is a lonely word
Our drinks are no longer sweet
It's used too much in our favorite songs
No longer has any bite

We say awful things
Get by on committing cheap thrills
Self aware to some degree
For where we are

I'm living right
But envy another man
His life I've seen from a distance

Life is a ticking clock
I'm stuck wanting this and that
Happiness isn't contagious
It's so hard to find

Still have my health
A couple joys left in the world
But it isn't getting any easier from here
Think I'm still living right

Yeah, I suppose I am
