While you sleep

The moon casts shadowed light
across your face as you sleep,
watching your eyelids flicker
and body wince.
I can feel your warmth
And the dampness of the sheets
Night terrors plague you
Your heart faster it beats...

Placing my hand on your chest
comforting maybe?
Curling in tight, hopefully
dulling the intensity
Of what rampages within Your mind...
A stilling sigh escapes your
parted lips, muscles relaxing
Sinking into the mattress...

Guess it’s not a bad thing
that slumber has not claimed me
I will not succumb;
You need reassurance more
when it’s dark...
Shhh don’t wake;
I will be your protector
while you sleep.
