Backseat Serenade
We fell in love that night
Beneath a sky of shooting stars and waning moon
Hidden away in a garden all our own
We promised the world
But needed nothing more than you and I.
We were high on youth and drunk on love
Our thrones were the worn seats of a Chevy
Our riches and gems nothing more than a battered guitar and combat boots
We lived our lives in a state of eternal summer
We professed young love on tattered back seats
The heady smell of cheap cigarettes and perfume heavy on the midnight air
And the tang of whiskey tainting lover's lips
We were clueless and idiotically idealistic
Wild in our youth and confident in our immortality
Reckless yes..but utterly and completely in love
