Giving Joy

In today’s high tech world of instant response and reply
There seems to be the lack of the enjoyable process of waiting with a sigh
Text or calls, one is given almost immediate gratification
But a written letter or note provides a different level of satisfaction
Texts are usually quick and easy with messages short of thought
Hand wrote missives provide recipients with a piece of sender being caught
From the image and texture of the words spilling across the page
One can soak in the feelings of love, hopes, fear, sadness or even rage
Gentle hands trace the inky flow to touch the sender’s essence
Reading and re-reading folded pages with loving reverence.
Mementoes filed with ribbon wrappings in bed side drawers
To remind and rekindle the connections with friends, family, spouses or lovers
Anticipation and longing for the next delivery of post
Wonderful heartfelt hidden treasures found in stamped envelopes.

(….I found letter written during World War II, sent to my grandmother from my grandfather –who was fighting in the War...  I can only imagine the joy she felt with each letter received from him….)
