Even nooses have curves
We hung ourselves
like hipsters in rebirth
from old to new
and back again
I’m something borrowed
you’re something blue
I’m something stolen
you’re something true
It rang like the stories
of our lives unlived
when we still believed
we could be all the things
we wanted to be
our dreams repaying us in cash
for the privilege of dreaming
and suicide was just a metaphor
for climbing out the window
when all the doors were closed
I killed myself to find the truth of you
and all I found was air
words woven into the fabric
of the illusions I breathed without question
It was better to be alive and ignorant
than honest and dead from the neck up
before I hit the universe
in the fall from your grace
when love was all said and done
and a kiss rendered this circle broken
the shattered pieces
to be picked up by the lovers and poets
who would turn sorrow into art
