For the girl who spoke
She graced the world with perfection
Sliding by without suspicion
No one seemed to notice or care
That the girls life was bare
Depression hides behind an iron mask
In order to stay alive, you have to be fast
But she didn't know the trick of the game
Or the decaying loneliness behind the fame
She has a legion of friends by her side
None of which know the truth behind
She's not exactly one of them
Unknowingly, by herself she'd fend
Cruel fate tears her apart
She doesn't even know she's a work of art
She doesn't care for the world she lives
She doesn't know of all it gives
If only she could see what lies ahead
That it's not all bleak and dead
That the future is soon at hand
That she only need get up and stand
Of course now is unyielding
And yes life is oh so unforgiving
But at the end of that compact road
Is the story that's meant to be told
She'll tell it to her kids when they feel alone
Speak it to those who could not condone
The feelings she had when she was sixteen
Will one day be felt as softly as a dream
Her will breaks with each passing verse
At the sudden remission of this curse
Although it has not gone away
She has new hope it will someday
Sliding by without suspicion
No one seemed to notice or care
That the girls life was bare
Depression hides behind an iron mask
In order to stay alive, you have to be fast
But she didn't know the trick of the game
Or the decaying loneliness behind the fame
