Iron and salt
I’ve been listening to your silence
for far too long
drowning in the air of your words unspoken
waiting for the day when I won’t be invisible
in your gilded mirror
I stand behind your shadow
play host to all your ghosts
don’t forget I’ve seen all the meds
that hide in your bedside drawer
while you try on clothes un-crazy
I’m just a fading heart beat
in a romance that died for reasons
we’ll never understand
wondering why I’m still here
when prettier faces faded from sight
I’ve been listening to your silence
for far too long
and my lungs, like iron
are tired of corroding under the subtle words
of you salted lies
These chains can no longer hold me
