A Lack of Kings
Write some words of wonder
Or poems about faded highs.
The kings are all dead
They left DU to its demise.
Pretenders all to the throne
Call themselves the king;
And a poetic genius,
Isn't that an absurd thing?
The king's aren't in the building
Crafting out their art;
Yet the queens are all here
But cannot take part.
The trolls invaded the forum
Spreading hateful angry dissent
When down came permanent bans
But not before the kings all went.
The kings are all gone or dead
They left all they despised.
Only the lord and a few stayed
Is this how DU slowly dies?
Or poems about faded highs.
The kings are all dead
They left DU to its demise.
Pretenders all to the throne
Call themselves the king;
And a poetic genius,
Isn't that an absurd thing?
The king's aren't in the building

Re: A Lack of Kings
Kings? I guess that depends who you ask, everyone I read is still here. What made them kings? their poetry or time spent in the forums? I think the bans and bullshit can be weighed on both scales, the trolls and the "kings". I consider myself an outsider looking in, I saw a lot and cannot blame either side, because if there's shit there's going to be flies....the poetry is not dead here, look around, but the forums they died or are dying, they are boring not much going on there..... Cool write none the less :)
Good Luck in the comp!!! strong entry made me rant and talk shit!!!!

I think a few kings aree still here, PanamaJudas if I am right. But methinks he'd laugh at titles and rather have a smoke that be crowned.
In truth there are more poetry competitions going on. But somehow there doesn't seem to any diamonds waiting to swoop in, or rather I feel uninspired.

thumbs up on Nikkimoe's comment.

Viddax, who are the queens and what is it they cannot share?
Do you like nonsensical verse? If so, let's go!
"write some words of thunder
about jaded thighs..."

The queens are the many, many female poets who could be classed as DU royalty: not just from time but more from skill. I won't name names as its not my style to. Yet in the 'Underground King' competition it seems no one cares for the ladies.
I adore nonsensical verse, and sometimes I can see the logic and sense in them. One day I hope to return to the joy of nonsensical verse because of having a muse to write it all for. Anyway...
"lightning thin waists
and empty eyes.
Sing some songs
of models of fashion
thier skin orange
but souls only ashen."

Hope that female muse does flutter her wings at you to inspire. (That model you speak of sounds like another mannequin. :) ) Thank you for that treat.
Yes, it does appear the "Underground King" comp's host was gender biased, eh? I just laughed and switched the "men" sign to a more unisex symbol on the door of the royal throne room (or bathroom) before entering. :P

A true DU TopCat is far from such gender based roles or titles. With them being the epitome of a deepling, a competition title is probably the least of their worries.

What is the king?
the king is everyone who is a part of DUP and not a plague to it... at least that's how it should be... and not just a head to lead... everyone/anyone can lead. hence they are king.
we all are king.

I am a Romantic and like to think of any leader or person of prominent position, such as DU King, as being the best and skilled of us.
With the recent Exodus many would be claiments to the crown are gone from the roster.

For me every work is the baby of an artiste. Who is the king I don't know and am not interested to nominate one. For my work I am the king...But can you distinguish Homer with Shakeaspeare? Of course...through their work...we all wear crowns my friend...as for this above work of yours the regular humor is marred by a debative subject:-)

I thought my humour was most irregular: fighting in irregular ranks or at least falling over each other in irregular ranks.
DU is unique in that a true Top Cat would be highly debateable: do you go for time and skill, or amount and skill?
Then again most of DU is like an opium den where people like to be left along with their drug.

this is conceived in a very romantic way, making the underground a kind of Camelot of poetry. I see it as great gathering hall for good writers, similar to the Algonquin Round Table (the name of which also alludes to the knights of Camelot). arousing poem...

I suppose is does have that fell, seeing as it is based on the nursery rhyme 'Sing a song of sixpence'. Might need some medieval wood carvings to go with it.
Though like Camelot the DU pictured here is remembered and preserved in poems, while the world moves on from such romantic ways.

I don't think so much in terms of kings (not for any republican sentiment) but mastersingers, cf the Mastersingers of Nurnberg who were talented poets and singers but they had dayjobs/businesses such as shoemaker Sachs. I have just been reminded of it having been listening to Wagner's overture.
I echo JohnFeddeler.

DU has many appearances, and is thankfully no longer a place without kings or master artisans who create poems.
