Little Dog

We have traveled far, you and I
From the first day I seen you I fell in love with you
I picked you up and held you close to my heart
And whispered in your ear, I love you

Little Dog

It was so funny with you and I
When you were in my arms and licking my face
Wiggling with happiness
You also ruined my shirts with your wet excitement

Little Dog

I always whispered in your ear
“If your mom gets tired of you, I won’t
I would be there for you always”
But your Mom is the best
And loves you with all her heart

Little Dog

You have been there when my girls were born
You have seen them crawl and walk
You were there when they started to talk
And you were there for them to pet

Little Dog

Now at the end of your life it has become so sad
The sickness you have inside is eating at you
You look so tired and weak
All I want to do is take it from you

Little Dog

Now is the time I must let go
But something told me not to till I told you one last thing
This pain inside is killing me
You were always so welcome
And are loving and caring
No faults do you have in you, so honest and true

Little Dog

So I picked you up one last time
and held you close to my heart
And whispered in your ear

“I will always love you”

Little Dog
