Reflections
I'm here, real. You found me
when you sought me. You trod
lightly past the teacher — that was
not me. My hands, clear and shiny,
reflected back. You peered in and saw
yourself, unsmudged. The possibilities
haloed outwards, radiated.
Choice grinned behind you, full of teeth.
Sometimes, we peered in together.
Once, you saw me too, and we
waved and smiled... it's been a while.
Today, I peered in, waved at no one.

Re: Reflections
Mirror, mirror on my wall, who am I today? Whomever you are, whom shall you see and become, and where will you go tomorrow?

Jake, thank you for your thoughts - if the poem leads you to more questions, I'm pleased. I'm honored it made your list.

in the empty......
I really liked the last stanza
I know what that is like
realizing the extinction,
what once was, is no more.
great poem.

There's a very amusing narcissism about this. I can't assume what your intentions were, but this strikes me as a comic poem about vanity, or maybe just self-esteem. There's also an elegance to your lines, which I like in all of your best work; you craft these neatly expressed little images and ideas which make a shining whole (*giggle*, "shining w/hole"). It could maybe do with a few more unique images to make it weightier and thus less forgettable, but I enjoyed it.

Jenkin, I like your take on this. You have added another layer to it that I wouldn't have noticed. Never mind my intentions, your analysis is valued, thank you.

I feel like we're on the same wavelength atk. Took me a little longer to express it I guess, and our 'antagonist' may differ but the journey is parallel.

mmm... I didn't see narcissism here just the search for hope lost.

Re: Reflections
If I'm the cheeky poet, Atakti is most definitely the clever poet. I've read this a few times and it only clicked today what it meant [or am I the slow poet?].
I love this piece, Atakti. For me it is about hope just as much as it is about loss. I think people, as individuals, evolve through life all the time and so must our journey of discovery, self discovery, rediscovery. LIke the pool of water it evaporates, vaporised, precipitates and congregates [high poet].
Obviously, this poem has triggered much thought for me. I like the structure the poem, it flows like water off a dragon's spine and the whole concept of a reflective pool gives the poem a sense of naive innocents... thanks for sharing this great poem, Atakti. [Do you think between the two of us that we could make up the seven DU poets or are you white ice?]

It may have taken a few days, but your comments are longer than my poem... Wow, thanks, Case [definitely high poet].
I really like your analogy of discovery as a cycle of water life. You HAVE been thinking heaps... I'm so glad this piece caught your attention. Thank you for the list add.
"I like the structure the poem, it flows like water off a dragon's spine and the whole concept of a reflective pool gives the poem a sense of naive innocents..." This is officially the coolest comment I've had!
I'm soot black (in disposition) and grumpy. You can have the rest...

The ending was unexpected Atakti, it gave me the chills.
I think the scariest feeling in the world is to know how empty we feel inside and the realization of it.

The ending caught you off-guard, did it? Well, it's no surprise my darkest writes are the ones reflecting inwards. Thank you for the comments, Vee.
