Create a New Canvas
I draw chalk marks all over my body
Hoping the eraser smears a veil across my skin
To create a new canvas of identity
But the material of use is fallible
The surface easily scratches with water or the spit
They spray in my face like the bullets I return in my dreams
Each one etched with all the names they call me
FaggotFairyFreak
DykeQueerQueen
SisterDaughterNeice
HerBeautifulShe
I got the gun engraved, so I could finally say
THAT ISN'T WHAT I AM- I AM A GODDAMN MAN!
And when I am alone with those words
Bouncing between the walls of this socially constructed box that feels more like a coffin
I violently slice away more of the smeared veil
You can't miss the scars I've drawn
Crafting a veil thicker than water can infiltrate or impacted walls can knock free
I crawl into bed and fall into my dreams
Where my body reflects who I am supposed to be
But then the alarm clock starts screaming
And she is still here, wrapped all around me
Her painted nails dug into my skin and her glossy lips stealing my oxygen
I fight back the best I can, throwing punches and vomiting out the words she gorges herself with
She is trying to convince me that she has the upper hand because she possesses visibility
But little does she know of reality since all of the majority can be seen
Real power lies in me because I am a super hero
Invisibility my power and courage my strength
I am able to sneak under the radar until I have the necessity to stand tall
And allow their eyes to peel off my self-constructed scars like band-aids
I am able to sneak over the radar until I have somewhere safe to place my feet on the ground
A place I can call home and walk around vulnerable
With her skin shed and my flesh the only substance wrapped around me
Transitioning from the power of invisibility to the euphoria my true canvas is finally being seen.
Hoping the eraser smears a veil across my skin
To create a new canvas of identity

The surface easily scratches with water or the spit
