necessity
building a boat
in the desert
I am far from a carpenter
and can hardly build a thing
but debt
yet I got a hammer
and aim enough
to sink nails
enough boards salvaged
to float
won't need to though
here, there's only sand
and I am not Noah
even if we could get through
the stubborn, and the sorry's
the big guy would sooner
speak incendiary
than salvation
to the self-elected like me
but, at least then I'd listen
have to respect a man
frustrated enough to talk fire
to breathe being into the tension
of its opposite
without even the echo
of a function
and
although my vessel
will be reduced to cinders
having never known wave
I will hand braid fibers into rope
knotted to an anchor that will never drop
my boat
will be built without reason
in the most unlikely of places
existing as unnecessary as love

It's all about the last two stanzas for me. Profoundly sad, riddled with more sense than I have heard on DU all week. This read made it all the more glorious.
A hearty thank you.

Missy is right, it all pulls together in the last two verses.
Good imagery and a mind-grabbing concept.

to the self-elected like me .. This one is so har hitting. and as unnecessary as love. wow. you speak depths far beyond alot of norm. One would have to be paying total attention to appreciate. like these ladies up here. thank you sir..

There is so much interplay going on here with symbolism and word choice, not to mention the category you shelved it in.
Arks are receptacles for inspiration and wisdom, they are protection, husks for renewal, carriers of promises and the seeds of this reality...Noah's Ark is a reflection of the nurturing haven of the Temple, and it was a labor of necessity, one that was internal not just commanded.
There is deep communion when love lays ground work to transform a desert, whether it is self love, romantic love, or familial love. Growth is a bitch sometimes, but when it's an unshakeable need from the microcosm it will not be stopped and a true adept goes for broke, because that little voice is more powerful than circumstances. S2 speaks volumes about it. Self- appointed isn't heresy. It's what we are all supposed to be, seekers, questioners, climbers. I'm truly in awe of this :
frustrated enough to talk fire
to breathe being into the tension
of its opposite
That's gonna dwell with me for awhile. I needed the reminder today.

I just laid a big ol' comment here and some fuckin' divine cyber intervention wiped it out. So I'll come back to it later. Was this a big edit of its original?

not a big edit, but small things can go far
look forward to seeing it... use to learn fast around this place, had to compete with artists

What I like is how some of the stanzas could stand alone with an abstract essence. It's definitely the kind of poem you write earlier, but purely because of its metaphorical nature. It's definitely a complex piece, regardless of metaphor.
There were a few poems of yours and bragg's that I meant to go back for, when I had the lust for it.
