cracked

dust colors the horizon
a musky red
fraying into
the velvet violet light
of a sleeping sun

the river bed is dry
as dry as cracked lips
that scorch kind words
into burnt lies

the river bed is dry
as dry as a torn heart
that is unable
to trust
just pulverise into
particles unseen

the river bed is dry
as dry as an exhausted soul
an everlasting drought
quenching for self worth

cracked earth.
