Loyalty
You think your shadow
is always there with you,
that he’s the only one
who never leaves you
and you can always depend on him-
strong, comforting and solid.
But maybe you’re wrong;
he’s not there half the time,
leaving you in the pitch black night
when you need him most-
alone and upset-
he doesn't care.
But then maybe, just maybe,
he’s been there all this time
lurking in the darkness,
hiding your sensitive eyes from
the masses of pain all around you.
Maybe, just maybe, he was there all along
right beside you but you just couldn't see
how loyal he was
and how much he sacrificed
to stay in the dark and act like it didn't hurt.
Maybe, just maybe, you called and he came
it’s just you couldn't see him,
only the pain.
