Emotionally Stingy

To those of you
who abandon those of us,

sexless marriages
demeaned
threatened
devalued
uncared for
disposed of
forgotten
replaced
unacceptable

whether on purpose or not,
this is an open letter
of protest and concern.

There are 4 parts
of human beings
that need to be attended to
in order to support
basic health and vitality.

1. The soul above all
needs to be kept free
to grow and mature,
to learn and observe
the conduct and passing of life;
without this,
we become lifelessly inept
to remain vitally whole
and strategically in tune
with our own needs.

2. We all have minds,
and we must be challenged
constructively
not critically analyzed
as if under the knife
and surgically transformed
to meet anyone else's
expectations.

3. Our internal mechanism
for remaining self-evolving
is our emotional state
of equilibrium,
and so we must continue
to feel exceptional
and worthy,
open and transforming,
able and valuable.

4.Our most basic need
is human touch,
the primary signal
that who we are
is validated
by our species,
that we are members
in good standing,
and that we are loveable
beyond a mere intellectualization.

Those of you,
emotionally stingy
for whatever reason,
are holding back
the raw materials
of human existence,
and we are hungry,
we are thirsty,
we are alone,
but we only allow
ourselves to be lonely
out of our munificence;
your control
over our survival
is granted
on the basis
of our compassion
for your blindedness,
but it is not a right
that you can claim
above the right
to be loved.

Intimacy is
the most basic
of all human rights,
and if you do not have
the emotional wherewithal
to at least be intimate,
then at least have
the common courtesy
to let us go,
without shaming,
blaming,
or guilting us,
so that we can get
our most basic needs met
with someone
who cares
and is not so incapable
of human communication.
