Flashbacks
Sadness was seeping
From her pores
She dripped a sense of doom
That you could smell
Over his fresh cologne
She was laying with
Her back to the floor
Trying to hold in tears
That had no right to escape
He laid on top of her
Snuggling close and gently
Whispering of their love
Trying to comfort her pain
That sometimes shows up
Without any obvious prompting
Images violently flashed
And slashed across her eyes as
She breathed fast and shallow
While anxiety started to step
On her shrinking lungs
She clenched her fists
Because she was too afraid to scream
And hoped the pain might make
Her voice jolt out with necessity
He kissed her lips
Attempting to pry
Her polish chipped nails from her palms
And he begged her
To just let him into her head
As he over powered her hands
And held them down
To protect her from herself
The images kept coming
The sounds resurfaced
The smells invade her senses
She kept kicking and pushing
She was fighting and
Franticly searching for escape
But he didn't know why
She was terrified of him
"Wait...
No
No
No
Please, stop!
No
No
NO!
STOP IT!
YOU CAN'T DO THIS!
PLEASE, LET ME GO!
HELP ME SOMEBODY!"
The words leave her mouth
But the most important
Fact stays silently inside
She chokes on the pleas
And realizes she should have screamed
"It is trying to rape me"
But instead she just kicked
The balls it didn't deserve to have
And stumbled away as fast as
Her two high and boozed legs
Could carry her burdens
He held her close
Rocking her slowly
And softly kissing her hair
"Dry your eyes, Little Bear-
Flashbacks won't stop me
From loving you limitlessly
They cannot scare me away
I promise you, Princess,
I will protect you
No pervert will ever prey on you again
You are safe
You are safe."
She clung to him sobbing
Remembering the cost of her mistakes
The price she had to pay
For living for the world
And relying on her blade:
Attempted rape because
She was cognitively compromised
It wasn't the only such event
But it would be the last
She could see that promise
In the blue of his eyes
That reflected the face
Of a girl who had demons
Just waiting to return
But she boldly built barriers
With his love and God's grace
To let her live fully for the future
To keep the past in it's place
To allow her to honestly say
"I am changed
I am saved
I am safe"
From her pores
She dripped a sense of doom
That you could smell
Over his fresh cologne
