Read this please!!!
So, I made this profile to update poems to get people's opinions, and so far, I'm not getting the feedback that I had hoped. So, I'm going to take some considerations from you guys. What should I do different? Are my poems even good? Help me out. I will be open to anything, except, I will not write about Molestation, rape, drugs, abuse, etc, because I feel like that category isn't me. I am aware that, that specific subject is the most popular, however, I will not write about it, and that's that. Also, if you haven't read my bio on my page, then I will state the most important: I DO NOT write about my personal life in a negative way. In ways such as, being depressing, feeling sorry for myself, etc, I really don't write about my life in general. Every single one of my poems are written in the submit box. I do not think of them before hand. They are stream of conscience if you will. There are a few that are about how I feel, such as the rant poem, and the death of a family member, however, I made them discrete, and I translated all my factual info into a universal theme. Anyway, Please don't comment saying stuff like "OMG, This site is about expressing your emotions, be true" blah blah blah. I know that's what most people do, but not me. And once again I state, I'm here to see how well of a writer I am, and to get feedback. I'm not here to use this site as a personal diary. That being said, also don't comment "That's basically what you're doing now. you're ranting like it's a blog or diary." Yes, I am ranting, but no, I am not using it as a diary. This is a profile update, not a diary entry.
Anyway, please (Positively) tell me what I can do to improve my views and comments and what I'm possibly doing wrong.

I have felt similar sentiments. I occasionally receive comments on my writes, but I have only received one constructive comment since I've joined this site. People seem more likely to compliment. I know you said you don't want to hear cliches, but writing in this area is personal, if you aren't writing to express yourself or a view of yours, what are you writing for? or who? I don't let people tell me what to write, and thankfully on this site few will try, so if you have topics you want to avoid, then that's fine. If you decide later that you do want to write about something dark, go for it. It IS yours, to keep, to share, to erase, whatever. I was surprised when I first found the site that the erotic genre gets the most reads the quickest, but then I realized we're all animals. But see, that's not me, I'm not a fan of that genre, mainly because most of it is so repetitive and blunt, but that's just my view. I will check out your writings, and if I see something I can critique or enjoy, I will comment or provide feedback. I ask in return you do the same for me. I've come to find that you have to give feedback and comments here to receive them in turn. Your poems get lost pretty quick in the new poems section, so you got to make noise to be noticed.
I agree with Heliz Lips. I have felt like this recently, when some poems that I have recently written didnt get nearly as many comments or reads as I wanted them too. I myself prefer to write poems that tell a fictional story, not about my personal emotions. This hasn't always gone over well with readers. It got me dejected, but then I realized two things. The first was that the poetry I write should please me first, and two, that I shouldnt worry so much about what other people think. I honestly believe you just have to take it as it comes, and not get too upset about it. I too will not write about particular subjects, like erotic poetry. I tried to write one when I was down about not getting a lot of feedback, and it just was not me at all, and I ended up feeling unsatisfied with it, and I kind of hated it. Just keep going, that is honestly all you can do. And if you get involved in the community like posting in forums and commenting on other peoples poem, you will get more notice. Keep trucking!

I'm not a pro and i really do not know right from wrong or left from right about poetry...i say take things slow and if i could quote ErinH "Keep trucking"...hey you got me to read this one :)

I would stress the point about reading and commenting on other people's poems. It's all about contribution, if you don't contribute then most likely half the people on here won't know you exist. Try to be constructive yet positive in your feedback, try not to leave comments like 'scrap it'. If there's nothing positive at all to say, don't say anything. You look like you know what style you want to write so I would advise you to find some poets who write in a style that's closest to the one your trying to achieve and just read everything they have, see where they started and where they ended up with their work so you can see how they progressed and maybe evolved. Anyways hope this was helpful to you, good luck on your journey to become a better writer.
