"20 Questions"
The wind was picking up and blowing her hair into her face, she giggled because he said something funny, like always. She was one of the few people that understood his humor sometimes. She glanced up at him,his face was glowing with a smile and the sun was framed behind his head making him look like an angel whom had mistakingly fallen right there next to heron the beach and found it quite funny. She squinted to see through the sunlight hao around his face as he continued to look at the waves rolling out in front of them. Splashed with orange, blue and gold the sea looked like a painting of what the sea should look like at sunset.Except that this wasnt a painting,it was real and they were witnessing it.She sighed and looked away from him as he leaned back on his hands and bathed in the fading afternoon sunshine."What do you think it feels like to die?" He asked. She looked at him with a hand shading her brow.Suspecting a punch line she answered carefully "Well it could be really painful, all your organs slowly shutting down and each breath and beat of your heart becoming harder and harder..or it could be peaceful, fading away, becoming infinite, one with space and time.." Now he laughed at her "What the fuck kinda b.s. is that?" "You asked" she said and looked at the sand trickling between her fingers as she examined them. "and you answered, your so weird sometimes.." he rhetorted. "I am not!" she yelled a little louder than she meant to and threw a clump of seaweed in his direction. "You know Im only kidding,I like your weirdness most days.." he responded as he brushed the seaweed of his lap and raised an eyebrow to her. "Alright then-" she continued "What would you say with your dying breath if you could say anything to anyone?" He took his time leaning back on his hands. He lowered himself down to his elbows so he could look at her levely where she was now laying on her side tracing circles in the sand with one hand and holding her head up with the other. He looked at her for a moment longer and shrugged his shoulders forward slightly before saying "I wouldnt say anything to anyone.." She continued to look down but opened her eyes wider in suprise and hurt "Oh really?" she responded. "Nope" he said and leaned towards her as he whispered "Id use my dying breath to kiss you one last time instead." He leaned away from her once more and picked up the piece of seaweed. He then threw it back at her before she looked up and saw his retreating figure running down the beach. "Butt Lick!" she muttered before getting up and running after him to finish the seaweed war and hopefully watch the sunset.
