On the Shortness of Life
The perfect balance,
wakefulness and dreaming,
there is always this to know
as if concrete and seeming.
Between our youth and age
the bitter and the sweet,
the more we know the less
we hold our destiny's defeat.
And so the travelled eye a glance
sees far into the thrill,
this shorter thing, a longing dance,
this flower for the mill.
Neither can we stand and watch,
nor can we idle by,
for longing brings us round again,
each step a grace-filled sigh.
A heart then brought to bear its own
that speaks its truth in days
will one by one each manifest
a night laid down with praise.

We only regret the chances we did not take.
Wonderful words, m'sieur.

I do too...so very much..and this is why I write so much about kissing....it seems that the length of a kiss is directly proportional to the intimacy involved between the participants...and the same is true of life..the length of life is not the years, it is the depth of intimacy....like a kiss that may only last physically for a few minutes but lasts on the lips for eternity.

I love how you conveyed so much depth with such brevity. Enjoyed the points made in each stanza and the way they flow together-good work, turtle :-)
