I Can Fly

Waiting and wond’ring for ever so long,
Hidden in darkness, away from the song.
I was a prisoner, bound with thick chains,
Not of metal but with fear and pain.

Wrapped in nightmares so dark and grim,
Cruel prison so dank and so dim,
Captive of my own fears and pain,
Chained with mem’ries of my own shame.

But why can’t I
Break my own chains and learn how to fly!
Soar like the eagle as I touch the sky!
Feathers rustling as I glide so high—
Spread out my wings and fly!

I’m too frightened to breathe or to move,
My hopes were broken and my love too.
All I crave is freedom so pure,
Could it lurk behind prison door?

Dare I chance it, to break free?
Is there something that I do not see?
Is there hope where I thought there was none?
Could I dance once more in the Sun?

I think I’ll
Break my own chains and learn how to fly!
Soar like the eagle as I touch the sky!
Feathers rustling as I glide so high—
Spread out my wings and fly!

Creeping softly to the door,
I touched the lock—it was no more!
Breaking free from prison to life,
Finally taking my freedom from strife!

At last I
Broke my own chains and learned how to fly!
Soar like the eagle as I touch the sky!
Feathers rustling as I glide so high—
Spread out my wings and fly!
