i've always loved the story of persephone
demeter's daughter
she was dragged to the underworld
by hades
where she ate from the tree of knowledge
so she had to stay
but demeter was willing to kill off
the entire human race
so zeus struck up a deal.
i've always loved
how the souls of women
have always been
something to bargain for
and i have this eerie feeling
mine would come
half off.

Excellent ending. It really did capture the word "eerie".

Love your title. I don't understand, though, why she had to stay in Hades just because she ate from the Tree of Knowledge? Wonderful, very creative poem. I always wondered (in the Biblical story) why there was a Tree of Immortality, since Adam/Eve were immortal to begin with. ("Never, not ever, end a sentence with a preposition, "said she.
