Splattered Heart, Punctured Brain

"Hello darkness, my old friend
I've come with talk with you again"

The silence has become wearable
like broken in shoes
many ways to interpret
but to me one glaring message
"love don't live here anymore"

The eyes that sparkled
when I crooned your name
now wear detest an annoyance
in garbage that always needs to be taken out

You seemed so eloquent in keeping
insincere suitors at bay
dictating in the boardroom
and mastered academic nauseousness

All that book learning seems
to have found a wrong turn
the golden rule of communication lost
you can't not communicate

"And you read your Emily Dickinson,
And I my Robert Frost,
And we note our place with bookmarkers
That measure what we've lost"

You have trained your comrades well
they play nonintervention to the hilt
packing ambiguity and aloofness
to rival any legislative decision

So no commotion needed dear audience
that love train been done gone
so long ago
thin is the line between love and hate

"The thrill is gone
it's gone away for good"
