POEMS AND SHORT STORIES
Poet Introduction
“You write your first draft with your heart. And you rewrite with your head..; the first key to writing, is…to write; not to think.” - William Forrester, Finding Forrester
Hanok
Fishing boats navigate the sea.
Each city steeped in memory.
And street food vendors
Scattered here and there;
A taste of Spring
In the Winter air;
This venerable village hums
A resilient tune:
A heart cry of history.
The night’s lights gleam
In kaleidoscope tones,
Across this modern mystery.
Each city steeped in memory.
And street food vendors
Scattered here and there;
A taste of Spring
In the Winter air;
This venerable village hums
A resilient tune:
A heart cry of history.
The night’s lights gleam
In kaleidoscope tones,
Across this modern mystery.

Brother
I ate
Chicken heart,
While sitting
By my brother-in-law,
At a street vendor stall,
Half a world away;
We talk
As brothers,
Separated by
A mere barrier
Of common speech;
He knows much
Of my native tongue;
I know scant bits
Of his;
This worthy man
Is
My brother.

Trek
It seems to me now,
We all walk slowly as we can;
Though few, as steadily,
Towards the fate of Man.
We all walk slowly as we can;
Though few, as steadily,
Towards the fate of Man.

Easter
I live
Right beside
A church,
And,
How quick
The street
Does clear
After Easter service;
And remains so,
Till the next year.

And,
How quick
The street
Does clear
After Easter service;
And remains so,
Till the next year.

Thoughts
Mercy and Grace
Walk hand in hand
Truth does not sit
Where Justice stands
Love is loud
Where Justice sounds
And Love is deafening
Where Truth abounds
Faith is for
The Hope we may not see
And Hope is for
The Faith we need
And Love is
Central to all these things
Walk hand in hand
Truth does not sit
Where Justice stands
Love is loud
Where Justice sounds
And Love is deafening
Where Truth abounds
Faith is for
The Hope we may not see
And Hope is for
The Faith we need
And Love is
Central to all these things

Dawn
Love,
The midnight hour
Has not yet gone
Though my kisses
Have barely begun
And may well yet
Linger till dawn
To see you beam
As the sun
The midnight hour
Has not yet gone
Though my kisses
Have barely begun
And may well yet
Linger till dawn
To see you beam
As the sun

Love,
You are the sweet ripple
Of morning breeze,
Through the aspen leaves;
You are the lilt of Autumn rain,
And a rich breath of petrichor;
You are the lilac in the field,
You are the touch of elegance;
You are my wild treasure;
You make my soul dance,
And you make my heart soar.
You are the sweet ripple
Of morning breeze,
Through the aspen leaves;
You are the lilt of Autumn rain,
And a rich breath of petrichor;
You are the lilac in the field,
You are the touch of elegance;
You are my wild treasure;
You make my soul dance,
And you make my heart soar.

Stranger
She said:
‘Hey, stranger.’
And I turned,
Caught off guard;
Saw her,
And for a brief moment,
The valley of my regret
Bloomed with
Beautiful memory.
‘Hey, stranger.’
And I turned,
Caught off guard;
Saw her,
And for a brief moment,
The valley of my regret
Bloomed with
Beautiful memory.

Her smile
Glowed
On a new-moon night,
And since then
The darkened sky
Has known no light
Glowed
On a new-moon night,
And since then
The darkened sky
Has known no light

Prelude
Some nights I watch
As you bow your head,
Perhaps in reverent prayer,
And I’m taken by the
Stark wonder of
The moonlight in your hair;
And terribly gently
You lift your gaze
To softly draw in mine,
And I’m thrust into
The storm and waves
Of something so divine;
The brush of your smile
Upon this old soul,
Its wonderment
Dares me be whole;
A most timid kiss
It may yet be,
Though it ripples on
Through eternity.
As you bow your head,
Perhaps in reverent prayer,
And I’m taken by the
Stark wonder of
The moonlight in your hair;
And terribly gently
You lift your gaze
To softly draw in mine,
And I’m thrust into
The storm and waves
Of something so divine;
The brush of your smile
Upon this old soul,
Its wonderment
Dares me be whole;
A most timid kiss
It may yet be,
Though it ripples on
Through eternity.
