Your many shades of emo
tickle my ego
tangle with my id,
make me feel known

that my deep thoughts

OBSERVATIONAL POEM

National Poetry Writing Month
I wish I could say
I built a solid habit,
consistency each day
devoted to writing and quiet,
and that I’ll maintain
the pattern from now on.
But sadly, creativity
is still regarded as
lack of productivity--
putting off Important Things,
a guilty stealth-activity
done when others aren’t looking.
So I wrote 30 poems
but life is the same;
despite my commitment
it’s still hard to proclaim
that this is a priority,
and I won’t feel shame
about duties undone
or sleep lost,
because creating...

out of the blue
a million years after you left
It said things
that float between us
Things that
I know I’ll never hear you say
and I guess that’s okay
But I wondered…
And I don’t understand
what it is in me
that wakes up at your words
--just behind my solar plexus--

and so much time

And it makes no sense
that my soul should leap
in recognition

Perhaps technology
Is the death of mystery.
We’re so convinced
we can find certainty.
Too much information
(usually questionable)
makes us impatient--
no tolerance for
the unknowable
no faith
in anything at all
except our favourite influencers…
Faith is
by definition
trusting in a mystery
but
“I don’t know”
is no longer a valid answer
when we can find out
in an instant
everything from
random facts
to preferred opinions
So pick a side

MISCELLANEOUS POEM

Fake it 'til you make it
What if they all knew
that I don’t know what I’m doing
Or if you found out
that I haven’t got a clue
What would people do
when they realize I’m pretending
Will they disregard me
Will they look right through
This place feels familiar
the invisibility
I crave to be seen
but it’s a safer place to be
Life tried to make me unobtrusive
but a performer lives in me
Who cares if it’s to their liking
I can only be just me!
that I don’t know what I’m doing
Or if you found out

Call centre
I am on hold
with music that is
intended to calm me
I will stay bold
for I am not calmed
I remain (politely) enraged
I’ll not be subdued
though two chats aborted
I have been persistent
No need to be rude
this is a new person
so let us start fresh
I need not plead
for my case is strong
and you will not thwart me
I plan to succeed
not pay one more penny
for your fake “free trial”
with music that is
intended to calm me

A quest to find the light for you
(because you said you’re in the dark) --
there’s little else that I can do,
so maybe I can share a spark.
Encouragement through silly stuff
(a quest to find the light for you) --
I know it isn’t quite enough;
perhaps it still might help you through.
I hate to see you feeling blue,
so every beam I will collect.
