The Speed of Sound
My frequency, your waves
I make a ripple and before it can become a wave,
Your waves crash into mine and overpower.
I can scream, sob, yell or whisper but it will not be heard over you.
Can you hear me over your noise?
Can you listen at the risk of losing your voice while you steal mine?
For once, just be quiet so I don't lose my mind.
How I wish to tell you what runs through my fields of thought.
How you would recoil at the snapping, angry dragon-lilies,
Shrink away at the loud criticism of the Black-eyed Suzies,
Bite your lip at...

So Alone
The playground was full today,
The monkey bars had no space,
The slide was backed up,
The hop-scotch had a line,
Kickball and handball had enough players,
One extra would just make it no fun and an odd number.
The library was empty though,
Empty except for one.
A book in hand, turning the pages with a growling tummy,
Tears decorated the carpeted floor as she hid behind the shelves.
How much did it hurt little girl?
To listen to the laughter and not be apart? To watch behind the tree as they played so joyously?
To play alone? ...
