POEMS AND SHORT STORIES
Poet Introduction
I started writing during the Great Recession. That time turned into a hidden blessing. After becoming re-employed, I kept writing. My themes are always inspirational, colors, love, desert or Christian.
How capricious it is
How capricious it is
To follow the tail of a comet
And skip across Saturn's rings -
To wade in endless streams -
Cloaked in ether's blanket
Of midnight fantasies -
Where I've other lives -
I'll never completely tell of them
But to the Pleiades.
To follow the tail of a comet
And skip across Saturn's rings -
To wade in endless streams -
Cloaked in ether's blanket
Of midnight fantasies -
Where I've other lives -
I'll never completely tell of them
But to the Pleiades.

It was hefted upon a breeze -
It was hefted upon a breeze -
As in a warm, flowing current
Through a sea of palo verdes -
To search for an embankment.
That seed of promise -
An implicit aster -
Was sent to broken gneiss
To become one with nature -
A golden bloom to come
To an expectant glen -
Not knowing how it found home
Except that it did.
As in a warm, flowing current
Through a sea of palo verdes -
To search for an embankment.
That seed of promise -
An implicit aster -
Was sent to broken gneiss
To become one with nature -
A golden bloom to come
To an expectant glen -
Not knowing how it found home
Except that it did.

El Capitan - you are a joint
El Capitan - you are a joint
Within the Sierra Nevadas
Of punctuated granite -
A sentinel of the ages.
Sylvestris partition -
Beam of silver - or steel -
Are you a step to heaven
Or a capstone for hell?
Stern expression of peace -
Keeper of fortitude -
Of what would you speak?
Would I even understand you?
Within the Sierra Nevadas
Of punctuated granite -
A sentinel of the ages.
Sylvestris partition -
Beam of silver - or steel -
Are you a step to heaven
Or a capstone for hell?
Stern expression of peace -
Keeper of fortitude -
Of what would you speak?
Would I even understand you?

Coming from within a rising hedge
Coming from within a rising hedge
Of voluptuous white oleander
I sensed a turmoil; one writhe
Seduced better than before
And within the naked boughs
Of some palo verde in a rustle
Of few leaves I thought I saw
Among them a potential
So quick and sullen, I almost not
Deemed it worthy a mention
Until a lone grackle squawked
That vernal suspicion
Then the wind flirted with a sage
Whose mane shimmied fervid
As if the breath of Earth had encouraged
Spring to dance for him.

Seduced better than before

Ample is the rising sun
Ample is the rising sun
That alights the furthest mountain
A carmine drape upon every hill
Exciting the birds to warble.
Ample, too, is the evening sun
That paints a nebulous curtain
Quickly changing the palette until
Bringing the good day to shutter.

Exciting the birds to warble.
Ample, too, is the evening sun

Quickly changing the palette until

See there marches Orion
See there marches Orion
With Sirius close at his feet
Tarrying not long in the air
To begin the midnight hunt.
His quickened breath congeals
His boots crunch the fallen snow
His eyes attempt to discern
Between tree and furtive shadow.
Mark the occasion and time
Of this harvest moon's fair
And note the dog's primal talent
For smelling blood and fear
Not to bring down a mighty elk
To quarter and tan its hide
What they instead come upon
Is Aries in a clearing field.
With Sirius close at his feet
Tarrying not long in the air
To begin the midnight hunt.

Low dust clouds bristled
Low dust clouds bristled
In the sky but I did not see;
A lone grackle whistled
A warning I did not perceive.
The world would not cease turning
In its cruel mockery.
I sat upon a rock, faltering
Because of things that wouldnt be.
Only distraction can persuade
Only sleep can steal
Such sadness that pervades
And hot tears that swell
But hotter yet came a wind
That brushed my fingers
As would one consoling
And dried my tears.
In the sky but I did not see;
A lone grackle whistled
A warning I did not perceive.
The world would not cease turning
In its cruel mockery.
I sat upon a rock, faltering

Only sleep can steal

Death, to me, is a stranger;
Death, to me, is a stranger;
I know not his whereabouts.
Ive seen him but havent heard
I know of him but weve not met.
He spoke at length with my elder
And convinced him to go.
I got to say good-bye before
He left, but of Death, I dont know.
He seems so popular among
Celebrities distant and queer.
With the sickly, too, he throngs
Too important to come here
Although once, without persistence
Death did rap upon my door.
I was busy I did not answer
So he left a calling card.
I know not his whereabouts.
Ive seen him but havent heard
I know of him but weve not met.
He spoke at length with my elder
And convinced him to go.
I got to say good-bye before

Blanched veils there and above
Blanched veils there and above
Hold it in stony repose
Throughout time's continuum
And blustering air flows.
Earth granted an ovation -
Nodding its magnificence -
But bigger still is the one
Who goes and conquers it.
Hold it in stony repose
Throughout time's continuum
And blustering air flows.
Earth granted an ovation -
Nodding its magnificence -
But bigger still is the one
Who goes and conquers it.

Love is two pairs of footprints
Love is two pairs of footprints
Impressed in the sand.
Will you ever walk beside me
And together go home?
Love is sunlight that makes
A flower turn its way.
Do you promise always
To be a light for my soul?
Impressed in the sand.
Will you ever walk beside me
And together go home?
Love is sunlight that makes
A flower turn its way.
Do you promise always
To be a light for my soul?

Great and Rugged Pyrenees
Great and Rugged Pyrenees
Whose solid presence demands
Notice of lush valleys
And Spanish oaks that dot the glens -
Prevailing winds churn in wrath -
I stop to breathe in them;
You cut the horizon in half
And grip my eye with icy hands.
Your cohort - a mix of clouds -
Can't forever hide your majesty.
Seville looks on from the south;
Andorra sings the victory.
Whose solid presence demands
Notice of lush valleys
And Spanish oaks that dot the glens -
Prevailing winds churn in wrath -
I stop to breathe in them;
You cut the horizon in half
And grip my eye with icy hands.
Your cohort - a mix of clouds -
Can't forever hide your majesty.
Seville looks on from the south;
Andorra sings the victory.

Spring days like these
Spring days like these
Were made for katie ruellia
Who is royalty among flowers
Robed delicately in purple.
She's arrived at the festivities
The trumpeters blow a sennet.
Her crown is the leaves;
The butterflies her subjects.
