back in the day we used to have this thing in the uk called a pub. it was where friends and strangers would gather to drink, talk, dance and sing.
in these plaguey lockdown times I thought it would be fun to have a place to share old bar stories, strange encounters in nightclubs, booze and drug related poetry and the like.
legal age varies across the world so i won’t be checking your id’s but do at least act like adults. and you don’t have to drink to be in here, we have lemonade

we're opening for dinner because i'm bored. don't try to order anything off the menu or indeed anything on the menu , it's all just from the chinese next door anyway.
there is a poster on the door screaming BRING BACK THE WORD AND VERSE in militant letters. no one knows what it means. the doors are unlocked. we have tidied the tables. there is no one behind the bar. there is a bell on the counter.

there is a clatter and a loud mutter of for fuck's sake and you see the barmaid stumbling from the stairs. she wears no makeup. she glares at you, and then her face as if changing scene in a slide reel lights up with a beatific smile. she produces some sort of rag she must have had in her hand all along and makes a show of polishing the bar.
"what will it be?"
