Music on poem posts

I'm wondering about an alternative to YouTube to posting our own musical content for our poems. I have been creating music with my poetry for a while but I don't want to post them on YouTube, at least not until I have a chance to monetize them and find a good site to sell them through. Now there's an idea for DUP, create a DUP store for members to sell our books and other artistic creations based on our poems.. well in any case, I have some spoken word renditions of my poems that are done through YouTube, but I'm wondering if there is an alternative service/site that I can post them to and have them appear on the poem page?
I'm basically trying to get away from using YouTube.
The music is my own, not songs by others. It is my poems put to music, not just music accompanying the poems, but turned into songs. It's been many years in the making and I really like how they have come out, so I am hoping to share here first.
Who else has the ability to upload music to? Will the links be compatible as the YouTube links?
Also, I do own the copyright so I am not concerned about them getting stolen.

Hmm. No responses so I guess there is no other site than YouTube to share music to our poems.

I do music on Bandlab. It's basically a free online recording studio. You can use a web version (check out bandlab.com) and/or download the app for your phone. You'll find another whole community over there to appreciate your work. But I don't think the bandlab links will post to DUP. I always put my songs on YouTube first if I want to post them here.

You could also post to YouTube without making it a public link, so only people who click through from here will see it.

Hi Poetryman, I started using AI to add music to my lyrics, some of which I've posted here.
It's a painstaking but satisfying process that can make the words really come to life although I wonder if there's any realistic financial rewards from streaming.
To me the music industry presents like a bare knuckle jungle where scammers skim off their cut to get themselves rich
AI music is a gathering tsunami loathed by purists and I can understand that, because I wouldn't be happy if I was a musician being put out of a job.
I have almost three albums together now but sense my own appetite to take things further than I have already is waning.
That said have a look at "Ditto" for distribution.
If you're really committed, you'll probably need to produce video for the songs (Videobolt claim to do that). Then there's the chore of marketing on as many platforms as you can find. Creating an animation character to deliver your songs could work in building a following.
But it's art for art's sake, trying to make a dollar has never been why I write. Didn't Buk say:"Don't even try."
Personally, I'd be content if whatever I've left behind makes someone happy or start to think differently about life, then it's enough-- and if some asshole plago comes along filching my copyright (wouldn't be the first time) who cares. Life's too short to stress over little shit.
I'd like nothing more than to hear your project takes you to the stars and beyond and wish you all the luck on God's sweet earth ~Abra

Yeah... musicians feel the same about AI music as most poets here feel about AI poetry. That's all I'm gonna say about that.

That's why I suggest bandlab. There are (non AI) musicians there who make beautiful (non AI) instrumental tracks, and are happy to collaborate with poets for spoken word projects or songs. It's an incredibly easy app and a friendly community. It's not only a place where you can create your music and collaborate with musicians around the world, but it has all the usual social media stuff as well - so you can publish your music there, and people can like and comment and follow you - just like here on DUP. If you decide to join with a paid membership, they have a distribution feature that can share your music to all the major streaming places. It's really a perfect place to try out your stuff with people who are into music (not just words) and then decide if you want to take it further. And the studio is really fun! You can add beats and cool effects if you're into that. If what you're creating are actual songs, I guarantee you'll get more ears on them over there than you will here on DUP. I sometimes post my songs here, but since that's not the norm here, there are people who just read the words and don't bother to click through to actually listen. (And that's ok. It's a poetry site!)

Anyway, I'll stop blabbing about it, but it sounds like what you're looking for, Poetryman. If anyone here decides to check it out and wants me to introduce you to the right people, let me know. I've been on the platform for 4 years now so I can help reduce the learning curve somewhat.

(Jeepers, they should be paying me for this promotion!! It's just that it's been a game-changer for my music life and so many people don't know about it. 🙂)

The biggest problem right now is just getting the YouTube link to work. It has changed and the dup link spot keeps rejecting it. It used to be the stuff after the equal sign, but it's not the same stuff befor the = so I don't know if it will ever be able to take the links anymore. For example my full link to my song is https://youtu.be/VR6gb1lipc0?si=jp1U0LdJZBn7J4RO but that isn't possible to enter and get it to work. I tried all past the equal = sign and the youtube video screen pops up but it just give an error
I think the link in DUP needs to be updated but who to ask? Is the web miss around?

I will check it out. I at least want to figure out how to share here on DUP, as it kinda feels like home here and I want to get the opinions of the people I know, or sort of know...

I do want to go further. I'd like to find a good A-i that can reproduce my voice but I like the songs I've been making with the one I use.

Hmm, my understanding (and I haven't done it in a while so I could be wrong) is that anything after a ? is not actually part of the link, it's a tracking add-on. So I think the part that you need there is actually VR6gb1lipc0 .... everything after the  / but before the ?  .

I totally agree that the method of adding youtube links here is really tricky though. Sometimes I've had to go through the process multiple times trying to find the part of the url that the DUP site needs. Very frustrating. I do think there's somewhere on the site where you can send a message to the webmiss...

I was going to suggest that you post in "Suggestions" but I see you already have.

I think the messages that supposedly go to the website actually go to another admin. I'm not sure of that but I recall a few years ago trying to reach the website only to get a very negative response from an admin. So I stopped bothering.

Thanks Titanium, that was the secret combination. I got successful links on 3 Seeds and Artificial Art and I'm very pleased at how they turned out. I will point out that I intend to work with my brothers and nephews who are musicians to make full live band recordings, but I needed something to let them hear my poems could work as songs. I gave them copies of my poetry books 20 years ago and they were skeptical they would work to music and were unwilling to help me. So maybe now they will say, "oh wow,you were right" and maybe then I might say, too bad, you lost your chance.
Considering they have had 20 years to think about it, they deserve to get spanked with how well these turned out. JJ
