This explosion was not caused by natural gas, said a DWP inspector

Emerging from a clapboard bungalow
I walk out into the stark night's contrasts
With its textured grays; a Noir night mindset
As mist slow-creeps o'er Santa Monica hills.

Muting homicides in the valley below
I can hear the coastline breaker motions
On the slopes that overlook the ocean.
And news choppers that follow the twin streams

Of snaking freeway lights both red & white
And concrete shed of L.A.'s river bed
That sink into the misty bank, swallowed whole
Never to be seen or heard from again.

Though the local reports continue to
Buzz & broadcast from TV sets around
The south land as pretty, young weather girls
Stand ready in their summer dresses to

Update sleepy viewers on tomorrow's
"End of Summer" just as breaking news hits:
"Ponies were thrown clear of the blast", they said.
Next a man's voice, "Okay, folks, this is it!".

West Hills, a peaceful neighborhood where the
Manicured houses & yards suddenly
Shuddered as a garage disintegrated
And glass and pieces of roofs fell into trees.

As people slowly came out of hiding
And shielded their eyes as they squinted upward,
Lo' & behold, cartwheeling from the force
Flew little ponies tossing manes & neighing.

Firetrucks and the Gas company vans,
Their sirens braying through the shattered quiet,
Looked bewildered and forgot about the news
Because they now had found themselves in it.

Kids who lived on the streets of debris
All scattered, running the opposite way
In pajamas, pointing over their heads
While the colors of the ponies faded.

CELESTIAL CAROUSEL

This is our final attempt to communicate with you curious, yet cautious, beings.
Not all is how it apparently seems within plain sight nor within your bottomless dreams.
All previous attempts have been wiped away
Throughout violent eons of yesterday
monuments constructed and understood once
throughout countless cultures slowly crumbling away
remnants of whirling worlds
and fading words forgetting to stay
with fading eyes unable to see
within a war torn world of blaspheme
nothing more than a ghost
torn from an unforgiving host
Dessemination of a messenger's message
always becomes the reconstruction
of a new mighty tribe's desire to dominate
PURE POWER
PURE HATE
PURE DESTRUCTION
MANKIND'S FATE.....
Even our formulas and words
imprinted upon fields of corn are worn
mocked and recreated
by tricksters, duplicated
Any voice we had has faded
The love we offered you is hated
betrayed and traded
understated............
Given and taken, taken again and destroyed
all knowledge sent back to an unending void
Instead of a new corn field to be filled in
we began studying your wondering children
circling on ponies in hopes of spinning up to the skies
and to witness the endless sea of immortality
In a place where new life is born, and death dies
within the untainted eyes of eternity.....
Knights and princesses riding mighty steeds
spiraling up within spaceships to plant their new seeds
Astronauts and ambassadors
ready for a new world to hold
of which magic has long before been told
flying up towards the heavens in a flying disk in bliss
if only our final hope can translate this

Forgotten Childhood Dreams

The field echoes with laughter and imagination,
Seemingly forgotten childhood dreams and more,
Ghosts of times gone by haunting the prairie,
In an array of colors like unexplained folklore.
They bring the ponies to the haven of memories,
An understood and unspoken mutual accord,
An exhibition of nostalgic shared remembrances,
Where cherished recollections can be restored.
The galloping horses stand in a regal memorial,
Put out to pasture when children are grown,
Carrying with them fairytales and imaginations,
Where prancing spirits come to rest at home.

For the children of, not long enough.

As I sit and gaze into the misty dusk of twilight
at this oddity, I close my eyes and imagine............

Is this their calling, the reason here
these broken ponies of yesteryear?
Do they await, for a loving clutch
from the children of, not long enough.

I have these thoughts, that I hold dear
which pour forth droplets, of my tears.
And as they cascade, from my eyes
within my mindscape, I can spy.

Their frolic romps and play escapes
here in this field, within these gates.
Ancient Goddesses, made request
Caireen and Epona, at their best.

For if I listen, I can hear
the children laughing, so very clear.
A chance to be, yet once again
to run and play and be with friends.

Then from above, as angels sing
off in the distance, the bells do ring.
It is as though, they're called back home
to await the eve, 'til again they roam.

If you believe, as though I do
then things as this, can then come true.
And within your heart, you will be touched
by the children of, not long enough.

Thank you, MadameLavender for the competition, very interesting idea, and thank you for for the win. Very creative idea for a competition. I love the surreal landscape of the circling ponies

Ahh, at last I can make it here (had been back into hospital due to an emergency) to thank you, dear Madame, for the opportunity of a favorite comp theme that I feel lucky to have been able to write about and enter.  Thanks ever so for the honor of 2nd place, and best wishes to the cup-recipient, our archie... I've always thought of him by this nickname.  See you all again soon when our darling Lavender treats us to another opportunity to run a pony race!            ~~Jade
