Poetry Contest Description
speak out against Hate! especially if you feel wrongly accused of bigotry. if you say nothing, others will prejudge you as someone who agrees with the hate-speak of supremacists...
No limits, I want your heart and soul. Don't let others assume you are hateful. Assumptions are what prejudice thrives on. It feeds the 3 Seeds of hate...
No limits, express yourself!
This comp is for poems against hatred, not for hate-speak!
Poems only, not for prose.

The sound of violence and gunshots fill the air
As loved ones scream or in shock just stare
The taste of hate lingers in a killer's mouth and tongue
And with every breath he breathes through his lungs
He inhales venom and exhales disaster
Drawing unto himself destruction faster.
When hate overshadows a person's sight
He only sees the world in black and white
No beauty in colors or flowers
Just reaping disaster at every hour.
With the scent of blood clogging his nose
He smells not the pleasant fragrance of a rose.
I never understood how can people hold so much hate
To the extent of bringing down others to horrid fate.
I can dislike what someone may say or do
But this much is rather honest and true
I could never see myself dressed in garments of hate.
Contemplating and planning to set up a date
To bring them down to an unfortunate fate.
If your enemy is thirsty give him a drink
And if he needs a smile, give him a wink
If he is hungry, give him to eat
If he is fallen, strengthen his feet.
No more tooth for a tooth or an eye for an eye
Kiss hate good night and tell it good bye.
Because while hate may abide
Love must reside
For hate plus hate does not make a single right
But dark hate is expelled by love's radiant light.
End the violence!
End the nonsense!
Love has the power to conquer all
If we only knew how awfully small
A grain of hate infects our own soul
A friend to peace we'd be, not a foe!

What is Innate
Target matters not
hatred, immoral
easily misguided
resulting tragic quarrel
Intolerance, conditioned
hostility taught
ignorance
without awareness sought
To teach or condone malice
profoundly depraved
responsibility exists
obligation not to be waived
We cannot afford to remain
indolent in silence
nor should our response
perpetuate the violence
Protect the vulnerable
from radical attraction
with no willing participants
hatred halts without action
We were not created
to be united in common hate
but to be connected
through love that is innate
I do not propose to have all the answers but truly believe that if we find connection through love and belonging, we will not seek to destroy the same in others.

A little bit of morning inspiration for anyone who missed this comp...
"at the piano keyboard"
Sitting side by side
Did Paul or Stevie wonder?
about Trump's hate war?
:
:)
(I can't enter my own comp, but I can contribute!)

Make America (Great?) Again
New age of fear
new targets found
to channel waves of hate
to kick the "undesirables" out
and make a nation "great"
it comes to pass
through vicious lies
unite the mass
through great divide
leaves an abyss
through common ground
to things unasked
an answer found
a Country's issues
televised
in only terms
of race
so masses brought
to violence can
now be policed
by state
the media sells this shit,
you know?
to help this global empire
g r o w
they feed infernal fires of hate
to make their corporate empire great

A little morning inspiration for anyone considering entering...
A poem I wrote back in 1988...
.
.
"Segregation"
The color of my tie
And the color of my skin
Won't alter what I know
Or change who I am within
Taste your own medicine
It's the same thing that you do
Maybe you'll figure out
Why everyone leaves you
Look beyond your mirror
At the face behind the glass
Inside you are inferior
You need more God than Sunday mass
Each time that you reflect
The cancer in you has grown
Do you still wonder why
You are always left alone?
See with wiser eyes
If your eyes are all you have
Watch your bias fossilize
Two good eyes will make it halve
Look inward to your heart
You will see the other side
Embrace your counterpart
Release this Aryan pride
Your Grandfather's glory
His Nazi blood within you
So proud to tell his story
So eager to hate those he taught you to
You assume they're guilty
Of the judgments that you make
You've said "They're Not Real People”
You can't convince me that they're fake
Claiming they're all the same
But I know that isn't true
And the only person you can make me hate
Is the person inside you
Toe to toe and eye to eye
Death can't get us pride apart
But the only thing that needs to die
Is the hatred in your heart
