Temptation

When there seemed all the space in the world
Of a place unbound in life's orbit
This was, after all, a rule of thumb
And your touch became unthinkable.

To live in a time that has run out,
No room to stretch one's limitations,
What does it all mean to be standing
So adrift on the edge and not know.

To fathom the next exhalation
As being one's last of temptation,
It no longer matters nor should it
This close to a lost art abandoned.

And as the last air that I swallow
Buys me scant little time to indulge,
I won't try to sully this moment
'Twas my fortune to know life at all.

Why Not Me?

When someone does not think that you are
Good enough, why not me? They choose
Someone else over you. The hidden scar
Is not visible enough. One sip of the booze
And they do not think you are loud or crazy
Enough. Why not me? The girl who is pretty
Enough, but not smart enough or is too lazy.
Why not me? The girl who loves both the city
And countryside. The girl who smiles too
Much and laughs at everything, even the bad.
Why not me? Apparently my sky is not blue
Enough and is too bright. Even when I get mad
And angry it is not good enough. Think about
It when you have that girl who has all of those
Qualities, but the girl who leaves you in a drought
Is the one you want. She is your pretty little rose
When I could be your whole garden. Why not me?
Darling, what is it that you cannot see?

Co-dependent

I changed my hair
and heightened my heels
trying to be like the girls you craved

traded in my Honda for something "smarter"
and wore the coat you bought me for parties
(the night we went to the mall before the show
and you saved me from the shame of embarrassment
classless in my old-fashioned jacket )

I quit fishing to hang
at your pool
all summer I tried
being cool
with your sporadic shifts
keeping everything foggy
confusing me to tears
nightly pushed then pulled
soon as I'd relent

feeling stupider by the minute
and turning away good replacements
the only commitment you'd give
was flexible
and I was attached

your every word turned my world
to midnight
and I couldn't end it
though my friends begged me
to see you by stepping back
away from my pumpkin carriage

I just couldn't get it
why not me?  how is she better...
I begged the heavens for mercy

I lacked the ability
to do any different
until discovering I was
co-dependent

ZEN HOLY MAN

The holy man did walk the devastating scenes
observing all the drama-hooks thrown at him
and with compassion saw what had not been
thus undisturbed did pass on out and in

and this did stir the people to review
their inner strength which stood up on the stage
then one by one they flashed to what they knew
awakening in them their inner sage

thus quickened by connection to their power
did set about initiatives to save
and so the people cut their finest hour
and tapped into their inner resource cave

the holy man looked back and cast a glance
said “thank you, for that intervening chance”.

I’m Not Your Sock Monkey

….At least not anymore, but
I still possess the ability to beat
myself
up, far better than you were
ever able.

(Pssst…..it’s a trick, I perfected with you!)

Alas, I have
no more will and energy
to fight myself,

(and you’re gone, too…)

so thank you very much,
Universe—I do intend
to request repayment
in the form of
a lovely little home

(by the sea…with gothic arched windows).

Ah, the exploration of
“entitlement”;
so foreign, once, but
the scars on the inside
are far larger
than those you see
outward.

Yes, I’ll take
what’s long overdue
now—hand it over.

Why Not Me

Her eyes were dark
but they knew
her lips trembled
into a smile

he kissed her lips
once fluffy and new
still was, though a little dry
'I love You..' he whispered

she breath turned cold
her eyes closed, lashes like curtains
she trembled and was gone
like gossamer mists at dawn

take me with you
he cried into her ears
tears dripping on her cheeks
his body shaking in grief

the bed seemed to be an ocean
of little blue and pink flowers
brightly coloured bedspread inviting repose
lonely without her, he broke down again

he remembered their I dos
all the years ago, her coral coloured veil
his happiness beating on his chest
how he filled his heart with her

hugs during bad times
kisses when their life was spring
summer and fall's loving
and the nice bits in between

she was lowered to the ground
in a simple sturdy coffin
and as he whispered his farewell
his tears watered the white roses

why not take me O' Lord
take me now or take me later
but take me sooner than you want
half my heart is gone
please take this other half.

Why Not Me?

Pondering on wishes
What I'd have done
With all those riches
Life would be so much fun

What was so difficult
It was just a simple task
Yet he's heavily rewarded
Why not me I ask?

He looks so fly
Flaunting all that bucks
It's not just about being lucky
It boils down to hard work

Success is admirable
But it never comes easy
So instead of rhetorical questions
It's best to get busy

Choices

I can’t sit here and ask myself,
Why is this happening to me?
I am a product of my own choices
I am in charge of my own destiny.

I am the engineer and the architect,
Of my faith and fate as much as it can be,
Even when there are things I can’t control,
My reaction depends on my personality.

I will never look at someone else’s success,
And ask myself, why not me?
For I know they’ve put in the hard work,
For now they enjoy the fruits of their labor...
…and productivity.

I am the creator, whether it’s now or later,
Of the path I plan to take and tread,
Even if there are obstacles I have to face,
I have to keep a cool and clear head.

I am an outcome of those old decisions,
And the consequences that came to be
So I refuse to question or ask myself why,
When the responsibility always fell on me.
I’ve rejoiced in other people’s achievements,
So I’ll let them inspire me.

I'll Tell You Why

So here I am
yet again , wondering
when really I know the facts
that surround my own bullshit.
I can't even fool myself into
my own belief , let alone all the outside
of which I'm inside of .
There is no real 'why me' because I know
damn well .
I do it to myself every time .

I wear my dire strait jacket
In hopes of a still life
Where lifes fruits are placed in balance
For ease of composition if anything
And so that life be aesthetically pleasing
Right angles in unison
To draw in the eye
And give focus
To a world that has little
All around me seems in a tizzy
I go dizzy when contemplating mankind
And our place in this Universe
I do tend to tempt fate
And for that
Apologies
