‘Twas the night before …
and the cocaine dribbled and dripped down My swollen throat.
My cock thrust again and again into her gaping gullet,
and I shivered … awaiting the numb deluge of sticky bloat.
‘Twas the night before that,
that My heart was stolen by this vicarious vixen—
this dangerous heathen [witch] My dick’s in.
‘Twas the night before.

My way was nothing like you'd ever known,
I blew your mind and then I cut your soul.
The way I loved you with my scimitar
was in its blade to bare your heart to me.

Birds sing a morning song
But what am I to do so long?
So long it will feel wrong

You faded into weeping trees
Longing for the gentlest breeze
A rhyme for lost time
And the morning rime
So unhealthy was the fixation
Maybe need a vacation
Need to stop thinking
'Twas the night before
That night froze over
For there is no sun for me
I am left standing alone
Above you, I mourn
I, alone

I write the majority of my poetry in rhyming couplets and when I conjure the words I always have the rhythm of "'Twas the night before Christmas, when all through the house" in my head so poetically I have a deep connection to the line: 'Twas the night before".
Congratulations to mysteriouslady on winning the competition. Short and sweet, I liked the grunge-like quality of the poem and the flippancy in using the phrase, which for me was reminiscent of those times we say phrases like "ages ago" or "last week sometime" - just showing how imprecise our memory can be. But this poem took the phrase further to give it an 'amnesiac-like' or 'blackout' feel.
