Poetry Contest

A poem about the state you were left in a breakup.
*after a breakup

*One poem per poet.
*Old and new poems welcome.
*Can you try keep it under 200 words.

I'll kick it off.

Blood

On the walls
floor
ceiling
and door

It oozes
it drips
it floods
and it pours

This house
is my heart
and at the moment it hurts

Blood gushes out the power outlets
and squirts out of the fan,
it rises out the floor boards
marring any idea of who I am

The blood quickens
congeals
then clots,
a scar across my soul
and in the aftermath of all this blood
it doesn't feel like it'll ever be whole.

Good luck.

TO MY FIRST EX-HUSBAND

You left me without money
You left me holding the bag
You married me on false pretenses
You said oaths you never intended to keep

I got ill with depression
Had no permanent job
The law was on your side
For legally you had done nothing "wrong"

Morally you are a leper
Your sister has been shown to be just like you
Her name all over the Toronto papers
Showing family - non-values!

WHAT A MESS

I'd be lying if I said you kept me sane...

Though every drink now is liquor.

The cigarette smoke is thicker.

The heroin works quicker,

and I'm bleeding out a river

ABCs

Alone now in the cold night
Because you left me to suffer
Cut me with your piercing words, and now I...
Drown in depression and sorrow
Everything I thought was true was a lie
Fuck you, fuck this, fuck it all
Get out of my heart, get out of my life
Hell is awaiting you for what you've done
It's too late to apologize now
Just accept the consequences for your sins and crimes
Know that you just threw away the chance of a lifetime
Love you had, everlasting and overflowing
Maybe if you hadn't waited so long
Now it's too late, I've faded away and it's...
Over now, once and for good
Perhaps one day you'll be forgiven for what you've done
Question yourself over and over why you did it, and was it worth it, you...
Ripped my heart out
Shredded it into pieces
Then threw it away in the dirt
Unforgiven and unloved is what you are now
Vicious and heartless is how you acted towards me
When will you ever learn, when will you see
X marks the spot on my chest where my heart goes
You need to put it back please, for it's no longer yours
Zero...it's the amount of love I have for you now, and it's all you'll ever have

That piece was awesome, the ABC's of a bad breakup. I was impressed that the alphabet theme flowed so well, it didn't seem forced at any point.

Weapons Of War

I have drawn out my weapons of war,
I stand at the ready, aimed;
I have given up the fight, with you, for you—
I no longer have a clue.

I no longer move you, and
I no longer am moved by you;
I won’t play your game anymore,
I am not “stupid bitch”.

I will find out if you’ve found another,
I have already found mine;
I don’t care what you do anymore
I will have my cake and eat it, too.

I will take what is rightfully mine, and
I will take what I brought into this mess;
I will not take what is yours, and
I will not accept anything I am not due.

I will be loved, in all the ways
I always wanted to be, but that
I never got from you;
I am so much more than you realize.

I am covered by the Blood of Christ, the Armor of God, and
I will seize each moment as it comes, and
I will live life the way it’s supposed to be, and how
I envisioned it, originally, because most importantly,

I WILL NOT DIE FOR YOUR DISEASE.

Lost and liquidated

Prophecy that fled from heaven's

dressing in haste where

shapeless shards of

broken window gathered

her flocking red

underneath the fair gravity

For she tried to show him

rainbow in rangoli

while he'd just see

rainbow in shooting

green charts

Pulling his shirt she lifted

his egoist chin to fix

stares on the new moon which

seemed a new affair each time to her

forgot she was

guided by crossed streets

And now you seek those

steps that were once

peckish for your muted glint

when you

can't unlock the locked locks.

Thanks for the entry MadameLavender.

"I will be loved, in all the ways
I always wanted to be, but that
I never got from you;
I am so much more than you realize."

That struck a chord with me.

Rakhi Rhudra, that piece was absolutely stunning. I love the words that you use and the way your work wanders.

“I Wanted Your Heart”

(Remembering Louise)

It was never a whirlwind
nor psychotic,
truly love at first sight.
Ohhhhh baby,
I still remember that first kiss!
We rocked,
we rolled,
we traveled the globe
in grand bliss,
never once
thinking we’d ever split.
I rearranged a lifetime of goals
to make it right for us,
but you could not
fight that temptation,
you couldn’t wait.
You had to have
all the bells and whistles up front,
but it was me who wanted
to give them to you,
and I would have,
had it not been
for  that older guy
with the wife and kids,
the fancy car and
that big cold-mansion.
All he ever wanted was your pussy,
I wanted your heart, too...
not broken,
like mine.

*  Not Louise, but close enough to give me goose-bumps.

Straight to the point.

"All he ever wanted was your pussy,
I wanted your heart, too."

Solid entry Strider.

Edit: Actually that excerpt being at the end of the piece makes it pretty far from straight to the point but you get my meaning. :)
