Affair
evacuated flesh
soulless, sunken-eyes remain
an illusion of myself
buried at my weddings wake
a voluntary death
unrecognizable
phantom pains of a lost youth
seemingly non-viable
no worth to my existence
decades of grief drag on
desensitized motions
a falsified perfection
a counterfeit happiness
my show to the audience
everyone is deceived
-except you-
not fooled by my gestures
my fragile soul's transparent
you uncover my lost worth
expose my raw happiness
found my independence
now resuscitated
emotions resurrected
decisions become hopeless
my desire; life with you
my promise; death with him
my commitments bind me
my obligations, the rope
I must choose what I've chosen
in my death, you get my heart
for you are its founder
(I'm a bit rusty at this, so forgive me
)

A good wife, mother, friend she's been
Stood by your side through thick and thin
Picked you up when you were down
Helped build your business from the ground
Why should I care if it's wrong
The love we have is just too strong
Isn't happiness what I deserve
Our love I have to preserve
So what if she still loves you
Or your kids need you to make it through
I don't care she gave up everything
Wishes and dreams for a stupid ring
All of that is just an invasion
It doesn't fit into this equation
She brought this on herself you know
Stay at home mom let herself go
It's too bad about the cancer
It's really not my problem to answer
On her own she must learn to live
Then later maybe she can forgive
Either way I can care less
It's just too much added stress
You are who I want and need
Especially now I'm carrying your seed
(an old one)

“I swear I am not having an affair with your husband
this is not what it looks like”
I want to say we never did you wrong
but you know we’d both be lying
and yet I can say with all sincerity
that I never took your man to bed
I felt like the secret keeper between your lies
and when he called around that day
I was too drunk not to give you up
if I’d only had something to give away
no time can justify a year’s worth of talking
about bad movies and insomnia
not quite the scandal you had in mind
is it?
lonely voices have a way of sinking beneath lonely skins
and although I can’t justify a year’s worth of just talking
I can’t help but feel you’d be slighted
by the fact that he secretly confided his worries in me
and that I secretly confided some of your secrets
in him
