“A Letter to Harm’s Way”

Dear Unknown Soldier, Sailor, Airman, Airwoman, or Nurse,
I do not know who you are and I apologize for not writing sooner. It took me a while to decide what to say. Please, bear with me. I know you are in the thick of the fight, thousands of miles away from your beloved and comforting Home Sweet Home. It must be hard to keep your head up, to not tear at night, or to remain calm. Do not fret. Do not give up. I must tell you this- you are truly an inspiration to all of us back here. You will not be forgotten. I feel sad, rotten inside, when others take things for granted, especially things like sacrifice, duty, and honor—the things I know you hold sacred, close to your heart, and have imbedded in your mind. I realize, it must be frightening not knowing if you will ever see your loved ones again. Rest assured, they are wearing a brave face for you and will be here when you return. The price you pay for what we have, how we play, is your ultimate gift to us, your countrymen, who promise to keep the home fires burning for your Homecoming. And, if you don’t come back alive, I solemnly promise, we will never forget your courage, your perseverance, your commitment to things bigger than all of us, for you answered the call of duty, and, for that, I am eternally grateful. I will pray for your safe return. We’ll see you soon. Godspeed.
Respectfully,
A Fellow Countryman

Dear traveller,
We like to say in my circle of friends-Not all who wander are lost.
I do know that there are times when you must feel a bit of both. There are those moments in life when we question everything, especially our own purpose. When these times do arrive and hang heavy on your being, relax. Learn to see beyond the now. Sometimes it's not about how you feel-but that you do feel.
Not what you do, but how.
Not what you don't have-but what you do have-no matter how little.
Instead of fearing the possible..Hope and dream for what you will make possible.
It does not even matter what or whom you believe in, only that you embrace the lesson of finding out.
I suppose what I mean to say is that nothing in life is guaranteed to any of us but as long as our hearts still beat, our tour of duty here in life is not over. We can only embrace the certainty that yesterday is gone, and tomorrow lies ripe with possibility. Today all we can do is live because if we do anything else-we are as much as dead anyway. Be at one with who you are and you will always end up in the right place.
If you ever feel out of place, adjust your perception-at least until you get where you're headed.
Sending loving thoughts and best wishes,
Another traveller on this road we call life

Dear Soldiers,
My name is Nicole you don't know me but you killed my family.
you kicked in their door waving guns and speaking a language my family didn't understand
my uncle was trying to protect his family, like any good man would do
you shot him in front of my auntie and my two cousins, my auntie cried out in desperation for her husband her love, you shot her too
then you laughed. my cousin Naj she was beautiful you and your men could not ignore that fact, you shot her brother, my cousin, he laid next to his parents dying on the floor watching as you and your men took his 14 year old sister my cousin and started pulling her hijab off of her head, you pushed her to the floor you spit in her face you and your men raped my 14 year old beautiful cousin taking turns on a child all the while cursing her religion spitting on her defiling her in front of her dying family, when you and your men were done you took my beautiful cousin Naj and you slit her throat and you shot her.
My cousin Ahmed her brother did not die that day, he was shot and bleeding to death but he managed to somehow give his family the respect they deserved in there death, he covered them in white sheets, he did not have enough strength to dig them graves, he laid there for days before he was found still a live. He lives to tell their story to tell the world what happened to him, to us and to them.
where is the humanity?
where is the liberation you spoke of?
what made you better then Saddam?
where is my family's freedom?
I encourage you to remember why you are fighting this war, to help the people. not help the people hate everything you stand for.
Sincerely,
Nicole Muslima

[i know you said you don't want a poem
but when i was in beauty school
we had a project
where we had to write a letter to a solider
and i wrote this poem.
the solider wrote me back
saying he loved it
and it met a lot to him.
he sent me and my class a flag too
for a battle his squad had fought in
the flag still hangs in my old teachers room.
so i understand if this being a poem impacts my chance of winning,
but i thought it was very suiting.]
Dear Solider
Hi,
How are you?
I hope well
But I'll assume
The worst.
I bet you miss your home
Your friends, your family
And I bet that really hurts.
But hold in there
I know you don't know me
And these are all just words
But I'm sending you my support
Lords knows
You probably need it now
More than ever before.
I saw a bumper sticker once
That said
"If you can't stand behind our troops
Stand in front of them."
And I thought
Why don't we all do that anyways?
So if I could
I would
Take every bullet
That comes you're way.
I'd wipe away
Every tear of fear
That touches your face
Even as you stand brave
In time of battle.
I want to be your wall
Your barricade.
I just can't find the words to explain
I just can't come up with the most sincere way
To say thanks.
So please come back home
I hope you're not stuck in wait.
I don't believe in god
But I do believe in you
And I'm praying
Every night and day
You all make it home safe.

I asked for words of encouragement. Not for accusations against them. Not all soldiers are like that. You can't put them all into one catagory like that because we also have a lot of innocent people over there. People who are trying to protect us. It truely does suck that stuff like that does happen, but in war, shit happens. I am, myself, completely against war. I don't see why we have to kill more and more innocent people. It must really suck for the soldier who is ordered to "Put them down" by their Commanding Officer or what-not. So I don't want to see people on here just bash our troops. Not saying you did, but I wish people had more respect for the individuals at stake rather than the title of being a Military Person. It saddens me that people forget the prices our soldiers are paying for us.

Well I guess that means I lose...
1st you said be original
I'd say mine was pretty original considering where this comp was going, I did encourage them to remember what the war was supposed to be about.
I am so sick of people who think war is all care packages and love letters that smell like rose buds
and everyone in a uniform is a hero liberating the poor villagers who don't have wifi.
there is a good and bad in everything.
yes there are hero's and there are bad guys so I wrote mine to the bad guys.
you cant have one without the other
you kinda upset the natural balance
yin and yang.
I'll be the first to admit war is ugly
and it hard on both sides.
its up to the individual to decide who they are in a war
are you a leader or a follower? not everyone will follow a murderer and rapist. but some will, this was to the some not the many.
again I knew everyone was going to write to the "hero"
I chose the bad guy.
WOW! After reading your letter I was actually offended. bur after reading your response to the comment, how dare I criticize something this I live to stand by. Which is being the total opposite of the norm. so i read your letter again and I see and feel where your coming from. there are two sides to every story. I think your entry was definitely contraversial yet beautiful.

You wouldn't sugarcoat a gumdrop or applecrisp? Thats just harsh.
I think your write was fine, but this is her comp, she can moderate how she sees fit. Start a new thread on why soldiers.are mindless murderers or one just open to interpretation

Diabetes of the mind leads to hallucinations and amputated feet, but in good ways. you got it all molass-backwards.
Ps. Clogging comp threads is very good etiquette, so we should definitly not stop doing it. (we should)
