Thief
A shadow walking among men
In the dark I blend in
Hiding from the light
I seize wrong over right
A house of a friend is left alone
I assumed he was not home
Through the back door I enter
My hands began to pilfer
One by one his valuables go
His wallet and watch follow
He blames his girlfriend
And figures this is the end
His mind is in a daze
Blinded by a thievery haze
My hands so quick
His ring missing is what made him real sick
I take and take
Wondering what's next
A cake?
Yes his cake shop - my next test
Holding over 5K
I knew I couldn't stray
His money was mine
I came here to shine
After weeks of planning
I begin to suspect something
He is my best friend after all
Maybe I shouldn't rob him? Maybe the mall
But I cannot help but have the adrenaline
It feels me up so
You'll never know
It's a love hate
Stealing from him is easy
Because he hasn't accused me yet
Nor will he
Because after tonight I leave
With 5k in my pocket

I took your love with me, quiet, in the morning
and pasted it quickly over and over
down the alley side of the old theatre
along the backs of main street shops
strung together, so no gossiping whispers
are lost between them
"Missing!"
the parchment proclaimed, in my hand
both above and below the illustrations
of overly dramatic, sorrowful faces
draped over backs of wooden chairs
Reminiscent of Dali, I thought
and his dripping pieces of time
It was art for yowling cats and homeless folk
drinking their earnings and sleeping on
as if a circus was coming to town, or not -
Ah, that love I cleverly disguised
as not being there at all, on broad display
for whoever knew to see
You woke up to find it absent then, and smiled
at new scorn pasted all along the alley wall
Then they were mine, the secrets
painted closely there, valueless and used
I took your love with me, quiet, in the morning
and pasted it quickly over and over

Gray lives still flounder
to seek mutual grounds
I feel so empty now
Since you stole my heart

I do not ask for its return
I do not seek atonement
Of any sins for or against
Nor do seek recompense
Just take care of my heart
Love it as I did and do
Keep it close to you.

No one man should have all that power
How can she be for him alone?
The thieving scheme's in progress
Im having secret conversations on the phone
I admit my covetousness
Let me do this first
then I can fall for righteousness

to even think of committing such an insidious act
standing at the deli counter,
the man rudely demands
extra cheese and mayo on his overstuffed, slob of a hero
"That will be all" he says
as he reaches for his walkie talkie
I rebuff the muffled sound of the neighborhood crime
and respond "copy dispatch"in my mind (that's clearly out to lunch)
HIS GUN!
I have a mentally challenged showdown for his pistol
strapped to his own body
I withdraw it, becoming the baddest chick- gun slinger in the midwest!
I ponder how sharp my reflexes are
wonder if that extra mayo has slowed him down any
Can I just touch it?

I flash him my innocent smile,
in return, he nods as my telepathy becomes clear
he says..
