I live close to Pendle, and often go walking there - I’m absoloutly fascinated by the history of Witchcraft.  This was a poem I wrote about the Pendle witches and how their persecution strengthens the modern Pagan community, and women in general.

Cailleach

In the forest deep
Underneath the shadow
Of a boreal tree
Lives an old banshee
They call Cailleach

An old broken hag
Many fear a witch
In the moon’s light
She becomes a
Seductive wood nymph

Mother of deer
Mistress of the wolf
How many hunters’
Hearts and souls
Have you took?

Beware venturing
Into the woodland thicket
That you not succumb
To the charms of this
Of this shape shifter

She’s really Cailleach
Diabolist cunning and wicked
She’ll steal your soul
Then eat your heart
And you’ll be dissipated

The BeWitches

Soft whispers in the dark
bony caresses on cold cheeks
deadly rancid breath
wafting into your face
You can't move
You can't speak
You can't think
all is a whirling
nothing
Engulfing cold
squeezes your heart
goosebumps all over
slimy warted fingers
touches your neck
Cold silvery lights
scour the dark forests
a shouting scream of despair
the wind howls
you are helpless
hopeless
as shadowy figures
approaches
the Blair Witches...

Cailleach-oidhche, Sacred to the Underworld

The Owl of Moon & Goddess Crone
Appears to skirt the sky alone

To gather spirits dead of night
To rid the evil with its flight
And quell the forest folk of fright.

For Death is starting Life anew,
'Tis not the end as all owls knew.

Cailleach-oidhche, a Wiccan sign
To ev'ry Pagan, owls divine,

Are service in and are in league
In hidden power's psychic creed.

Their stealth to know, initiate
All wisdom, intuit, create,

Not lies, half-tales, but all of truth
To those who honor, old and youth,

By whom the Owl with second sight
Will faithful ferry silent night

The ever dedicated kelm
Who live beside the mountain realm

As are descendants of the Crone
While on the Mull she lives alone.

My Witch, My Dear

I am Bewitched
by your Eyes.
Within Me Yes,
your Spell does Rise.
Deep in the Darkness
of this Cursed Soul.
Tasting the Evil words
which make me Whole.

Their Splendor Swirls
thru Every Vein.
Like the Mandrake,
Nightshade & Wolfsbane.
Brewing there
Within your pot.
My Lust for You,
It Boils Hot.

As I Gaze
upon your face.
I feel your Shadows
Cold Embrace.

Being Mesmerized
by Dark Beauty.
All that you've Conjured
I give to thee.
My Wicked Queen,
for you I live.
This Demon's Soul,
to you I give.

You've Summoned Me
and I Appear.
To do thy Bidding.
My Witch, My Dear.

Come Dance with Me,
within the Witching Hour.
Before doing thy Bidding
and All men cower.
Let me Drink of your Soul,
so Sweet and Black.
Then send me in
Your Wrath to Attack

WITCH!

Raise holy fire your spirit’s proof
And hold to faith that heaven’s Judge
Eternity your soul command

J’accuse! with 13 women found
in midnight light held Satan’s feast
*to gain the herbs that heal and mend*

J’accuse! that in your devil’s curse
And hex you froze the farmer’s arm
*with spider bite the beatings stopped*

J’accuse! plying young maids such tales
Of love ribald corrupt their souls
*that from such both may pleasure take*

J’accuse! that from first mother’s birth
The baby steal as devil’s toll
*to spare the mother stillborn pain*

J’accuse! in herbal taint dissuade
The womb no child to hold or bare
*would kill good wife to bare again*

Raise holy fire your spirit’s proof
And hold to faith that heaven’s Judge
Eternity your soul command
