Shadows & PaiN

ShaDowS & pAiN
ONE
She dances naked with the curtains closed.
She never needs, but feels so exposed
I've heard her say "hearts in pain,
they should never cry."
But I've seen those eyes.
I've watched tears die.
Yet Still she dances in his flame.
Still she begs love to remain.

CHORUS
In her garden one wild flower blooms.
Pure beauty against his manicured gloom.
A bitter twist breeds her most tragic end.
(Before) His shadow and rain return with heartache again.
Baby, let me heal your soul,
I'm the one to make you whole.
Like a bird who won't taste the wind.
How can she win if she never begins?
How will we ever win if she won't ever begin?

TWO
Outside those curtains she disguises her tears.
Deep in his shadow, she's stained by bruised fears.
As she bleeds more questions.
He smiles more lies.
I watch her cry her saddest alibis.
Who plant love where hope won't go?
Then prays for it like they don't know.
How can it (love) grow,
when there's no ground below?
Love won't grow when there's no ground (nothing) below.

THREE
She dances naked with her curtain closed.
She forever needs and feels so exposed.
Between his shadows and the rain,
I'll be your shelter from the pain.
Words become such precious sounds,
when there's no love around.
Words are such treasured sounds,
when there's no love to be found.

Rose Tinted Imagery

When I was small I painted everything in red
Her hair was so much lovelier when I imagined her shadow glowed
In shades from pink to rust that I created in my head
I couldn't see reality no matter how deep her darkness flowed

As I grew older morning's red skies cast no early warnings
Oblivious to the omens as she shed pink petals along my path
I was fearless in my fiercness in spite of relentless thornings
I followed her rosey scent as she lured me to face her bloody wrath

Dipped like a strawberry in melted chocolate cream
It felt so sweet to be devoured I feel compelled to confess
Life was better while I was sleeping in a happy dream
For under blue skies my garden was a slippery muddy mess

Then I heard her voice whisper it was time to remove my shades
She told me not everything was a still-life waiting for a coat of paint
When after dark her silhouett hides in gray shadows as she fades
Reminding me that only in a rose tinted heart can she be this sinner's saint

When I awoke this morning the cloak of night revealed an awful glare
The lenes in my glasses lay shattered in the dirt beneath a bush of roses red
Next to them was an axe covered in golden stands of long blonde hair
As I became paifully aware my dream of her auburn curls died in my flower bed

Be Ready

You’re lying to yourself
If you think everything is alright in the world,
Those who may be opinionated,
May be the ones who get your spirit deflated,
When the truth is more than you can handle.

You can be as optimistic as you like
If it helps you deal with what’s going on in life,
But take action to correct what’s wrong,
So in your resolve be firm and headstrong,
So that you can manage things under pressure.

It’s ok to see life through rose-colored glasses
And have a certain positivity in your existence,
But if you get hit right in the face,
Be ready to run and keep up the pace,
When destructive forces are a constant threat.

We have to take it all as a learning experience
The good, the bad and even the unexplainable,
Just be ready to roll with the punches,
Listening to your instincts and your hunches,
So open your eyes wide and then you’ll be alright.
