Woot! T-MINUS NINE DAYS, NAPOET! If you haven't already posted today, that is.
We're in the deep waters of space now, and on a direct course to explore the Whale Galaxy ( NGC 55 ). The Whale Galaxy is a Magellanic type barred spiral galaxy located about 6.5 million light-years away in the constellation Sculptor. Along with its neighbor NGC 300, it is one of the closest galaxies to the Local Group, probably lying between the Milky Way and the Sculptor Group ( see image in next post ).

Being sick and doing this is hard. Which reminds me of this NaPo’s muse. Love you Miss Eerie.

T-MINUS EIGHT DAYS, NAPOETS ( if you haven't already posted today)! Don't get sloppy now!
We're coming into some distorted galaxies, NaPoets! The Hockey Stick Galaxy (NGC 4656), also known as the Crowbar Galaxy is a highly warped barred-spiral galaxy that has been distorted by gravitational interactions with NGC 4631 (a barred spiral galaxy). In addition, NGC 4631 is also interacting with the Pup Galaxy (a dwarf elliptical galaxy), and a dwarf galaxy known as NGC 4627 (another dwarf elliptical galaxy).
It's very important not to get caught in the gravitational pull of these galaxies or you'll be magnetized right out of the challenge! We've already lost one and another is dangerously close! With only eight more days to go - it would be a pity to drift now!

Above is the Whale galaxy (discussed yesterday) and to the bottom left is the Hocky Stick galaxy discussed today. Maintain your distance from these gravitational pulls or you'll get sucked right out of the challenge vessel!

Is there a Hippo Galaxy?
If not, there should be
Yesterday i wrote with an empty tank
No idea how i will get by today.
Guess i'll be siphoning from vehicles at the airport parking lot.

Vehicles would be apropos since all I discovered of the Hippo Galaxy is this...

T-MINUS SEVEN DAYS ( if you haven't posted today ), NAPOETS! I know it's difficult and sometimes the well runs dry - try sitting outside, close your eyes and empty your mind. Don't think but feel, and see what comes to you.
Beyond the Hocky Stick galaxy lies a complex and dynamic region of space. Specifically, a faint object (potentially a merging dwarf galaxy) and other background galaxies can be observed in that area. This is also the home of IC 342 (also known as Caldwell 5), is an intermediate spiral galaxy in the constellation Camelopardalis. Despite its size and actual brightness, its location behind dusty areas near the galactic equator makes it difficult to observe, leading to the nickname "The Hidden Galaxy". ( Image in next post )

One of the first galaxies that Euclid observed is nicknamed the ‘Hidden Galaxy’. This galaxy, also known as IC 342 or Caldwell 5, is difficult to observe because it lies behind the busy disc of our Milky Way, and so dust, gas and stars obscure our view. Euclid could take this beautiful and sharp image thanks to its incredible sensitivity and superb optics. Most important here is that Euclid used its near-infrared instrument to peer through the dust and measure the light from the many cool and low-mass stars that dominate the galaxy's mass.
