Your stars,
galaxies of radiant Beauty  
cause me to remember  
how I drowned when I fell  
into You……..  
the sparkling wells  
embedded in Your eyes  
 
Struggling to breathe  
reaching for comet tails  
flailing about achingly  
stretching to capture  
the rings  
any golden rings  
of any planet nearby  
 
Unaccomplished  
I ceded my all  
my wealth of twinkling  
diamonds and pearls  
adding to Your  
armoire universe  
and the dross from  
our searing coronas  
sealed a love  
to last until our rebirth  
or the death of a  
universe  
 
Trying, failing  
beginning again  
Living, learning  
knowing no end  
bound to You  
we are free to  
share the celestial  
gems to all  
with the heart  
to understand

 
I was at a plein air art show last fall
and at first,
I dismissed the sculptor
at the end
of the row,  
with his hewn statuettes
amid the pretension
of watercolor and
bubble-gum-wrapper genius
 
But he might have been the best,  
the one with the most soul.
 
I found myself with the crowd
mesmerized as he fired up
the chainsaw,  
and transformed
a round hunk of dead tree
into something with a form
and a presence,
into something
living,
something
beautiful.
 
His motions were definitive,
as he wrenched Venus
from a stump,
and I was hypnotized by
the need to
 
utterly destroy the stump
 
to uncover its  
hidden masterpiece.
 
Even as the tool in his hands
etched fine lines,
it chewed and gnawed and cut,
it chopped and grated and
chipped the stump into shavings and lint;
into dust that settled on the spectators’ skin
and was brushed  
into air.  
 
It was brazen and harsh and lovely
the way destruction  
preceded creation.  
 
There was no force,  
no scream-at-me-from-the-television-buy-this
super-glue that could ever,
ever,
recreate that stump,
could ever set it back to right
with every bit of it back in place.
 
I wonder if the stump  
screamed when it saw the artist,
or if it sighed against the
destructive caress.  
I wonder if the stump  
closed its eyes.  
 
I wonder if you’ve noticed that
my eyes are closed,  
the rev of blades  
quiet in the  
background,  
 
as I wait for you to
trace my sighing lips
with the bloodied edge
of your thumb.
 
 

 

The Rose in My Eye

Let me kiss you under summer rains,
and captivate your mind,
as we traverse a high plain
in beautiful, sultry nights.

Your lips are like a scarlet strand,
touched by sun rays,
voluptuous, her body spans
the complexity of her ways.

She is exotic, strangely hypnotic—
whenever I chance a gaze,
words come to me in rhythms,
melodic tones that never fade.

She is like a perfect iris flower,
adrift in flowing blue streams,
delicate in her step,
like a soft autumn breeze.

I can make her see new things,
all flesh and pristine,
as I search the skies
for words that will take her mind.

Every thought is of her;
she gives off a strong allure.
her seductive curves
make me high.

She speaks to me in hints
when I pass her way—
my muse, this lover’s bliss
I can hardly contain.

She is quintessential beauty,
rare of her kind,
a woman who is truly
the rose in my eye.

i am your dove

when slowly the darkness
falls away like a feather

there’s a ginger cat purring on my lap
my daughter snuggles in
paw patrol flashes in the back ground  
her hand strokes my face
her head lying gently on my chest
such fragility in the arms of a bear
she smiles
kisses my cheek
her little fingers tear out my heart
rebuild  
what was once an empty husk
