After the Banquet

Christmas Day
Post-prandial droop

Listening to Ed Sheeran
For whatever reason

Bloated and satisfied
Below, family and friends

While I sit upstairs
Good to rest

Good to unspool
Good to be

Wanna know what I did last Christmas, huh, Grace? Well... last Christmas I gave you my heart but the very next day....

It was Boxing day! 😁

(This is obviously NOT a competition entry, just something light hearted from Billy)

"Snow prints"

Prints where frosty winds blow
It hunts me here, beneath the glow
A fragile moon, a cruel gaze
Piercing through the winter’s haze

I whisper prayers God will not hear
Yet feel its breath draw ever near
The window shivers and quakes
A sound the ice itself forsakes

The glass distorts its shifting face
A swirling mass, devoid of grace
Hatred claws, its envy burns
A thing that creation  has spurned

Its growl cuts deep, a hollow moan
A voice like marrow stripped from bone
Inhuman mimicry calling my name
What is this thing's endgame?

I clutch the light, a candle frail
Its shadow dances, thin and pale
Outside it waits, a beastly grin
The storm a shroud for what’s within

The snow may fall, the carols sing
But in the dark, it spreads its wings
A winter curse, a hungry blight
Forever feasting on this night
