light cannot be restrained

watch how she moves
so graceful...
despite the pain
& it's a constant
always trying to force her into submission
yet she maintains her composure
knocking at each door
making sure voices are heard
then uncapping her own bottle
pouring ink in equal measure
her playful nature...
...& her agony
into concoctions & lyrical cocktails
alternating honesty with entertaining
wholly relatable
as we laugh at her word play
& lose coherent speech
when she bares herself
despite fear & awkward self-image
cringing inside
...but determined
because she's fully aware
when she speaks...
so many of us feel seen
she's a radiant being
& light cannot be contained
it always finds accessible fractures
creating a living beacon
making her glow visible
...to everyone around her
whatever you do...
don't take her for granted...
Duende is so much more
...than she appears

Keith (Vision_of_insanity)

Not afraid to cut people with his ink
Often saying the quiet part out loud
Throwing barbs from the kitchen sink
He knows how to provoke the proud

Underneath the darkness there is light
Hidden in metaphor or lurking in humor
Doesn’t pull punches or throw the fight
A warning to the fainthearted consumer

Sticks and stones often break bones
While words bring out honest results
So put down the fucking smartphones
He’s taking down cults and weak adults

His visions are packed full of insanity
It’s just the world as his eyes see it
I’m not gonna lie there will be profanity
He’s a smooth poet with endless grit

A Tribute

Is there a finer way to pay tribute
other than the form they have made their own
singing songs to courtly Spinet and Lute
and if wrath grows then blasts of Trumpets blown.

There is great wealth in writes couched in past terms
linked to sleeping blooms where rhyme came of age,
and they in turn looked to their past and yearned
and this, by hap, ere the first paper page?

They build on legends just as Shakespeare did
the one great change lay in that of degree,
where the bards voice is viewed theirs are hid
save for this happy band and, you and me.

And so I place my humble sonnet here
In tribute to the Midnight Sonneteer...

Characters in my story... TheOralizer

Your hieroglyphic ideographic writing,
minted in gold on bare stone,
It is a spectacle of ancient elegance
and timeless majesty.

Each symbol, meticulously engraved,
shines with a golden light that contrasts
with the austere coldness of stone.

The lines and curves of hieroglyphs
capture an ethereal beauty,
while the precision of art
is a testament to the skill
and dedication required to create such work.

The gold, shining and pure,
gives a feeling of opulence and solemnity,
transforming the stone surface
in a portal to past ages.

Each ideogram tells a story,
evoking mysteries and ancient wisdom
that appear alive in their golden form.

The combination of radiant gold and robust stone
creates a visual harmony that is both powerful
as delicate, a tribute to human ingenuity
and the eternal search for beauty and meaning.

Okay, let me make a clarification to this competition: Guideline 5) states:

You must mention the name of the poet the tribute is for. The reason for this competition is to speak our hearts out loud now, not after they're gone. That does little good if the recipient is anonymous.

While I realize there is not a guideline that says "No poems for the collective DU poets", it should be understood that this is for a particular poet you admire, respect, or wish to uplift.

I don't want collective posts because it's been done ad nauseum. Seriously. I've been here a decade and seen dozens of them. Anyone can write a genuine poem from the heart about DU as a collective healing and accepting community.

HOWEVER, that being said, NOT everyone can express how they feel about a particular poet while they're still alive. But I guarantee you that as soon as one of us passes, there will be dozens of comments about how they made a difference at DU, what a wonderful person/poet they were, et al.

This competition is to bring you OUT of withholding and INTO expression. Now. While they are alive and here at DU sharing themselves.

Some tips from questions and comments I've received:

1) Can I mention everyone because I am afraid I'll hurt the feelings of my other friends.

Nope. That's all a part of "withholding" our feelings and emotions from someone NOW and that emotion is based in fear ( of what others will think ). And, as I mentioned before, it's been done, ad nauseum ( though it doesn't diminish the beauty of the poems ).

2) Can I post about someone who is no longer here or has passed away?

Nope. This is a Living Memorial for ACTIVE DU members only.

Some have told me privately that they have chosen to post on their personal pages because they don't want to compete with their friends, or they're not posting to win, and that's fine. It's their choice. I'm talking with Webmiss, and this competition will become an "endless" thread once the competition has finished.

Thank you for understanding the nature of this competition PER THE GUIDELINES; therefore, if your entry does NOT fall within the guidelines, please edit your post and remove the link to your poem.

If you plan on replacing your entry, then type "editing" after you delete your poem link. If not, type "edited" so we know you aren't. You have 24 hours to edit before I have a moderator hide your post.

To those who have opened your heart and braved this challenge, kudos to you!
