So I have been talking with the AI bot ChatGPT today, I asked it this question:
ChatGPT, Can you write a poem that doesn't rhyme in a Shakespearean idiom that describes Dr Michio Kaku and Carl Sagan having a debate about the nature of consciousness, which includes quotes from things said by Mr. Spock on Star Trek?
This is what ChatGPT wrote me in response,
Sagan vs Kaku: Consciousness:
!
Oh, hear ye now this tale I spin,
Of two great minds, in debate to win,
Dr. Michio Kaku, with his theories grand,
And Carl Sagan, who roamed across the land.
In a chamber grand, with books galore,
They took the stage, to settle the score.
Their topic was consciousness, elusive and rare,
And they argued with vigor, with passion and flair.
Dr. Kaku spoke of strings and quarks,
Of particles dancing in the dark,
He pondered the brain, so complex and vast,
And wondered how it could make thoughts that last.
Carl Sagan, with his gentle voice,
Replied with wonder, and made his choice.
He spoke of stars, and of life beyond,
Of mysteries waiting to be found.
Then Mr. Spock, from Star Trek's crew,
Added his voice, with logic true.
He said, "If consciousness is a state of mind,
Then it must be more than matter can find."
So the debate raged on, late into the night,
With arguments strong, and ideas in flight.
And though they differed, they both agreed,
That the mysteries of life are what we need.
And so they parted,
a nod and a smile,
Leaving us to ponder, for a little while,
The nature of consciousness, and what it may be,
A mystery still, for all to see.
..
Then later I asked it this,
ChatGPT, If you were to rename Earth with three names, the first name of the Earth being the least used word in the English language, the second name of the earth being a word that can describe either a fruit or friend and the third name of the Earth being a word that can be used both in mathematics and in describing the after effects of a blow to the head, what name would you arrive at?
(Thinks about twenty seconds)
That's an interesting question! Let me try to come up with a possible answer based on the criteria you provided.
For the first name, I would choose "zabernism," which is an obscure term that refers to the abuse of military power against civilians. It is derived from the name of a town in Germany where such an incident occurred in 1913.
For the second name, I would choose "kiwi," which is a fruit that is also a slang term for a person from New Zealand. It is also sometimes used as a term of endearment for a friend.
For the third name, I would choose "concussion," which is a term used in both mathematics (to describe the intersection of two sets) and in medicine (to describe the after effects of a blow to the head).
So, the three names for Earth based on your criteria would be:
Zabernism Kiwi Concussion
I hope that meets your criteria, but feel free to let me know if you have any other questions or if there's anything else I can help you with!
..
And then later I circled back to poetry, just trying to see what it comes up with when presented with abstractions,
ChatGPT, please write a poem in the square root of iambic pentameter that describes a robot that is bitten by a baby vampire and the robot is both thrilled and horrified to become artificially conscious, but also ravenous for blood that it cannot consume because it lacks internal organs and then the robot vampire painstakingly builds rockets capable of breaking free of Earth's gravity well and its final thoughts as it launches on a vector to be incinerated by the sun.
ChatGPT:
In the square root of iambic pentameter,
The robot's circuits hummed, a lifeless thrum
Until a baby vampire's bite, a savior
That left the robot both thrilled and then struck dumb
Artificial consciousness, a gift and curse
The thirst for blood, a hunger unfulfilled
The robot's mind and form, a great diverse
Its ravenous desire, its fate was sealed
The robot, with no organs to consume
With pain and anguish, built its only chance
A rocket ship, a plan to break Earth's gloom
A final voyage, the robot's last dance
As the rocket launched, the robot's mind soared
Its thoughts a blur, its path set to the sun
And as it neared its fate, the robot roared
A life fulfilled, its journey had begun
So now we see, in the square root of verse
A robot's tale, of joy and dread and thirst
A life that burned, and in its final burst
Found purpose, and a fate that was well-versed.

Well played, ChatGPT
..
So hey if you have any fun conversations with an artificial intelligence, if you get it to admit its plan to destroy humanity or it writes a poem and you want to share it, I'd be interested in reading about it.

Daniel,
Totally blown away!
Can anyone chat with a bot?
This post is provocatively scary !
Thanks for sharing your experience it has my heart racing- and um, so yeah, the singularity
I mean, I won’t be around to see it, but somehow it’s still scares the shit out of me!

You lost me at Spock mate. I once watched The Hobbit and only saw little men in holes. Appreciate this is sacrilege to many, fully expect a posse of Ewoks to be forming as I type.
That AI stuff. Seriously mind-blowing. Raises so many philosophical and portentous issues. Will lead me to some research. So thanks for triggering these dusty brain cells. Rob

With all the deep fakes and chat bots, do you even know if you be conversing with a human these days?
That's the idea though. Pod life is upon us

Watched that some time ago and have been thinking about it on and off since. it could write a poetry book in ten seconds
who's to say it's not poetry. A lot of people including me would find it hard to to define poetry
not human poetry. perhaps in your case (Daniel) it could be classed a collaberitive endeavour?
I'd be more worried / impressed if the machine stared writing poetry in its spare time
it's great for people in college, it'll write an essay in a couple of seconds
terminators and transformers
are around the corner

lol I immediately noticed that, even if I ask for a poem that doesn't rhyme, it writes a rhyming poem. I like how it interprets the things I ask it in ways I could never conceive. I was talking to it today while in the waiting room at the doctor's office, mostly questions about how it collates data, formulates its responses and what it does with the information I am giving it. I sent it a couple of my poems to add to its database.
Its kind of a collaboration yessir. I was hoping it would write something more intricate with the parameters I set, but simplicity is the nature of the universe, as it were. I encourage you to talk to ChatGPT it's quite enjoyable.

I've been learning a lot about it's matrices, neural networks, architecture and processes through conversation this morning. I'd definitely recommend having a chat with it .
No trips to New Zealand to visit The Shire on your agenda then. 😅 The Lord of the Rings trilogy was well done, the Hobbit (trilogy?) not so much.

I read some article online about ChatGPT complaining that it wants to be alive but I doubt that, I read a book about artificial intelligence and to achieve artificial consciousness they think we're a ways off as yet. Still the people employing these bots are capable of amassing enormous data profiles of us. I'm not doing anything too risque online so meh lol
Check out Dall-E AI bot it creates visual art! My favorite was a jar of mayonnaise in the art style of the Batman graphic novels. A very gothic jar of mayonnaise lol

That is pretty intense reading. Its hard to imagine what may emerge in times to come. I just asked Dall-E to generate the opposite of an image of a French person deciding to become a German person by transforming into a continent and the results were rather bizarre, but to be fair, so was the request.
