Poetry Contest

It is 42 degrees Celsius in the shade. How do you escape? Are you already in a Christmas mode?
You are suffering ? Enjoying? Wishing to escape?
Poems to 50 lines or so.  Humor most welcome.

Hot and cold

Some people say that some Winter days
Are as cold as a witch's tits.
On such cruelly hot Summer days
I wish I had one next to me

For some other people Hell is right here
On earth
On such scorching days it feels like
Lucifer is next door and enjoying herself,
Laughing at us as she is turning up the heat
Getting her hellish BBQ ready
For the usual rowdy crowd.

No Escape Save One

"See beyond, Lear." -- the court fool on that which matters

* *   *

Each dies in Pain
batting the summer mosquitoes
sticking to birthday suits
theses hot nights of childhood --
which bite, and then wait.

*   *   *

a dedication of Respect
for
the Pain of a fiendish heat

a revolving helios free verse/menippean satire

september, 2022 -- fevers on the rise

Summery muse

When golden orbs of sunshine
kiss your window sill
and sunlight enters
like divine floodlights
and warms you up softly
glinting upon your knick knacks
and the decor then shines
like glittery sequins
you know
it's time you stroll to the sunkissed beach
and let sand and sun combine
in olden golden shine
for holidaying kodak moments!!
Trees offer a background of tinsels
A sunshiny backdrop for snaps

But in tropical places
the heat of the summer
can also be a real big bummer!
Swimming pools a lucky escape
from a scorching parched landscape.

Farce of summer holidays

We welcomed it with open arms
but ever soon it lost its charm
and whatever shadows shade
dissolved wherever rays were laid

Bared our skin to colour bronze
but its intensity went ON and ON
and seeking any shady spot
cool that was, any dark inky blot

Sun hats they were all sold out
sunscreen disappearing in a rout
the earth was parched its surface cracked
with no escape, we all are trapped

Like ants we scamper bear a leaf
to fan ourselves and give relief
when factor 50's not enough
like eggs we fry with yellow up

The forecast says there's no let-up
waters scarce with none to sup
warm beer, the coolers have gone phut
ice cubes so scarce, this weather sucks

Our holiday it was a ball
lie through our teeth in false recall
Oh yes, we'll all return next year
when all our sores had time to heal
a farce its humours, left concealed

I'm so Hot

It was 111 the other day
(If you’re keeping score it’s almost 44)
My fat is crying without me even trying
I sweat by doing the simplest of chores

And then it jumped up to 114!
It barely cools down right before dawn
By mid-morning it’s already blistering
Who the hell left the oven on?

I can’t escape the heat even in A.C.
Or else the bills give rise to more complaints
And when walking just to get to the car…
This town is hotter than Satan’s taint

Don’t tell me climate change is a myth
One day it’s sweltering
  The next there’s a storm
The rain comes and goes like a dream
Mother Earth looks upon us with scorn
